This was way overblown by I suspect a hardheaded Dallas cop who was probably showing off how tough he was to the Plano cop. Hence the reason he didn't let it go.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's already had it pointed out. I saw mention of it in the Dallas Morning News comments section.
