Is that an acceptable term where you all live? "Gimp" is the same as using the word "retarded"; although both mean impaired, they are considered very pejorative terms.

Gimp...to gimp around...wounded wing...I gimp every day sometime the limp is worse than others. I do not considered it pejorative (negative), since this is me...I can be healed after a second surgery that the doctor does not want to do.
So to me Cate - no, it is not meant in a negative way, since this is part of the life I have lived for the last 4 years

As a slang term, it can have the derogatory connotation that you mention.
In general usage, as Holly said, it means a limp (when used as a noun) or to walk with a limp (used as a verb). Adding a 'y' forms the adjective "gimpy", as in "My gimpy leg causes me to walk with a limp."

Thanks, karat and Bitsy . . . I see it carries far less of a negative connotation elsewhere . . . I am always learning.
