Need help with a very clean ipod
My daughters brand new ipod was in her jacket pocket. The jacket needed to be washed so I threw it in with the last load of wash. Wondering what was making a clanging noise in the the dryer, I opened up the door and...you guessed it a pretty new ipod fell out.
It will not turn on and my itunes is not recognizing it.
Any suggestions????

Tell your daughter that some scary guy broke in and demanded an ipod?
Other than that, it's probably a goner. Wet+Electronics never is a good combo. Then throw soap and other stuff into the mix...
My kids just leave candy in their pockets.

You have voided the warranty. She will learn to check her pockets. Or you will.
Sorry this happened.

yer hosed... and like others have said.. it never hurts to give the pockets one last check before dropping in the wash, especially on a jacket.

I may be the exception to the rule but I had the same thing happen with my son. It had run thru the wash and half the drying time. It didn't work right away but he has a speaker that he charges his Ipod on...I put it on there and left it for a day or so and it worked just fine. That was several months ago and it is still working fine. Try something like that. at this point you have nothing to lose. Good luck!

Re: Need help with a very clean ipod
Here's a tip that I heard, I haven't tried it yet, but you have nothing to lose MK. Put the phone in a baggie with uncooked rice, seal it. (a ziplock bag would work) Leave it there for two days, the rice draws the moisture out. Fill the baggie with rice and your phone. Go for it. Someone told me this tip, it worked for a camera, give it a try and post if it works.

Re: Need help with a very clean ipod
Just make sure to remove the phone before using the rice cooker....you might get lucky and survive the washing machine, but heating an ipod to 350 would definitely destroy it!docandjeanie wrote:Here's a tip that I heard, I haven't tried it yet, but you have nothing to lose MK. That's very interesting. I've never heard that one before.docandjeanie wrote:Here's a tip that I heard, I haven't tried it yet, but you have nothing to lose MK. My father-in-law farms and regularly drops his cell phone when he's irrigating. It wouldn't be in the water very long, but he would take the battery out right away, and put it in the oven for a couple of hours at the lowest setting (170 or so) to dry it out. He got them back working more often then not.
Now he's got a waterproof one.
Ipods have the batteries non-removable, and I don't think baking a battery would be a good idea.

Re: Need help with a very clean ipod
The "rice trick" works. I've dropped cell phones more times than I care to think about into water (yes, yes, at least once into a toilet). A few days with the rice and the moisture was removed and they worked again. Try it.
And a few bits of rice in your salt shaker also keeps the salt relatively dry in humid conditions. We've always done this at a beach house.

Do you use instant rice or the long cooking stuff?? (this is a serious question)docandjeanie wrote:Here's a tip that I heard, I haven't tried it yet, but you have nothing to lose MK. Instant takes up water more quickly, so I would think it would be the better choicefabduo wrote: Do you use instant rice or the long cooking stuff?? (this is a serious question)

Couldn't you just wrap it in a shamwow....you could end up starring in the next infomercial with Vince telling the world how it saved your ipod!z-man wrote:Instant takes up water more quickly, so I would think it would be the better choicefabduo wrote: Do you use instant rice or the long cooking stuff?? Re: Need help with a very clean ipod
that's bad news... iPods don't like water at all.
Hope you can dry it with that rice-in-bag solution..but I think it's toast

Our tech guy at the newspaper took the back off his and used a blow dryer (NO HEAT), held way back ... it worked for him. He was so relieved.

real rice, not instant rice (serious answer)
I also put some in my brown sugar it helps with that as well, you know how that clumps after it's open
