Me too.
AND I put the outside Christmas lights back up around the entire house, and the three evergreen trees in the front yard.

From Broadway to Empire State, New York goes dark
1 hour ago
NEW YORK (AFP) — From Broadway theaters to the Empire State Building, New York turned off its lights to play its part in "Earth Hour," a global call for action to combat climate change.
At 8:30 pm (0030 GMT), some of the most famous and most brightly lit buildings and landmarks in the world were plunged in darkness for an hour. Skyscrapers like Empire State and the Chrysler Building were joined by the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queensboro and Williamsburg bridges for the operation.
Gigantic lighted signs on Times Square, including those of Coca-Cola, the Chase banking group and the Nasdaq stock exchange also went dark in the "city that never sleeps."
The United Nations, whose building looks onto the East River in eastern Manhattan, pitched in, as did the city's main universities and some businesses open late.
"It's a good reminder to everybody that we are in charge of our destiny," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement.
"By turning out the lights, the people of New York City will be casting a vote in support of the future of the Earth," said Carter Roberts, president of the World Wildlife Fund, which launched the effort.
Calling 2009 "a pivotal year in the future of our planet," Carter said that "having New York City go dark for Earth Hour will send a powerful message to the world that the US is ready to assume a leadership position in solving one of the most serious challenges facing our planet today."
Dozens of cities across the United States participated in the global campaign, including Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami and Las Vegas.
A billion people across the world were invited by the WWF to cut electricity for an hour Saturday in the symbolic gesture.
A United Nations-led conference in Copenhagen in December is meant to approve a new global warming treaty for after 2012, when the Kyoto Protocol for cutting carbon emissions expires.

The problem is, too many people think that symbolic gestures are all it takes. "I did my part; I doused the lights for an hour!"
Yeah, right.

Getting up and actually *DOING* something, like riding a bicycle to work once a week, or turning down the A/C and opening the windows this summer, or ditching the SUVs and gas-guzzling pick-em-up 'sport trucks' — that's what it's going to take.

I've done one out of three on your list, which, for me, is pretty doggone allright.
I HAVE turned the A/C down.
It's now kept at 67 degrees, and not one degree cooler.
And, come next winter, I promise to not turn my furnace any higher than 80 degrees.

OMG, I'm turning into one of YOU PEOPLE. :o

It's this stoopid: last year some show on NBC, one of those Sunday news shoes, went "green" and only had 2 or 3 lights on during the taping of the show (or broadcast, I don't know if it's live).

ONE time.

It's like buying those stupid magnetic yellow ribbons to "support our troops".

What about the people that need SUVs and trucks?

Eight years ago, we bought a house two and a half blocks from my husband's office. He literally has a 30-second commute to work, or he can walk. Think of the gas savings!

Living in the city, I have been one or two miles from my son's schools, one block from a CVS, Walgreens, Beall's Outlet, Salvation Army (where I can take cast-offs), and many other shops. Four blocks to the post office and to church and to City Hall to pay water bill. Two blocks to the library, the bank, the power company and the County Courthouse. Half a block to the park where I walk my dog. I ride my bike on errands often.

One mile to the supermarket. Two miles to my mom's Assisted Living Center, and I make that trip twice a day, that's what is eating into my gas the most. Five miles to Lowe's and Walmart, and that's a good thing... We have to plan special trips to go that far. 8)

I think we're doing our part. AND I did turn out all my lights and the computer for Earth Hour and went outside and looked at all the blazing street signs and porch lights up and down the street. The guys kept the TVs on. My son said he didn't see the point in it, except for if people didn't drive for that hour. Now, that would make a difference!

I had a large fire and got rid of a bunch of leaves and some fallen tree limbs. Then I grilled a couple of ribeye steaks and drank beer in honor of it. It seemed like a nice message to send to the heavens and cosmos. The fires were nice to watch. The smells were definitely pleasing. The ribeyes were quite tasty and the beer was nice and cold.

I get to do it again soon when I rake the rest of the yard.

I was wondering what would happen if Bruce just happened to be plaing Born to Run during that hour. Would it be pitch black?
