On the news this morning their tech person was saying that the worm wouldn't allow to go to the Microsoft site to download the tool so you would have to do it from an uninfected pc and email it to yourselfmoog wrote:The funny thing is, the patch for this vulnerability was issued last October.
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-067
So patch now if you love to click all over the internet blindly and people send you crap in E mails.
If you were infected or think you were, use Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool. You can get that from their security and update site. Follow Spider's advice above.

Right. So lesson for future attacks? For the average user, just have the automatic updates set and the tool will be on your machine.

This is why this thing is so frustrating. If so were infected a few months ago, you should have cleaned up your pc and patched it. Then, you'd be fine. If you didn't clean up your machine, guess what, you are going to get infected again. I understand that the average joe may not know what to do (even though it is repeatedly said on the Internet, tv, radio, newspaper, tarot cards, smoke signals, etc) but what I find laughable is folks in the computer industry that let this sort of stuff slide. First thing I do when I build a server is patch it and AV it. Second thing I do is configure automatic updates. Third thing I do is my server happy dance.moog wrote:The funny thing is, the patch for this vulnerability was issued last October.

I really don't like some of the automatic updates for the reason they gave me IE7 and I didn't want it. I've got it set to notify me and then I pick the ones I want - which is usually everything but I want to know what I'm getting.moog wrote:Right. So lesson for future attacks? I understand Connie. I don't use Automatic updates. However, I would not suggest bypassing Microcrap's automatic updates for the majority of users.
