Reminds me of when I saw Mac in ATL with the gang. I can't even remember what song it was now, but the words just hit too close to home. I had flown to ATL for a family crisis, and in doing so was missing the funeral for my Mom's best friend whom I'd known all my life. The show was a gift from Steve to make a rough trip a little better. Mac started singing and I started bawling. Thank goodness for great friends who understood. ((((Steve, Bill, Jim, Barb, Rick and Coley))))

I admit I was a little late jumping on the Mac McAnally bandwagon. I had even blogged that I’d never heard of him, despite his decades in the music business, until Kenny Chesney lured this singer/songwriter into a duet on “Down the Road.”

I thought McAnally was pretty good then. But now? Now I am not only on that bandwagon, I am driving it. I just listened to his new single, “You First,” and thought to myself, “Now this is a country song.” It’s quiet with very sparse music. So instead of layers and layers of guitars filling the space, it’s the story of a man who finds out what he’s made of every time he has to say, “You first.” And that voice. That perfect haunting voice. It’s somewhere between Keith Whitley and Dan Fogelberg, God rest their souls.

With all due respect, she's gonna have to get in a long line to drive this bandwagon.....

So I keep seeing CBS plugging the country music awards show and Kenny Chesney's appearance ... will he be singing and, more importantly, will Mac be singing with him?
