No. The "whack job" was not military.

He was dishonorably discharged during recruit training three years ago. He never became a Marine. He might not have even fired a weapon before he was removed from training.

If Poplawski was afraid that someone was going to take his firearms, it is not because the government is picking on him, it is because he never should have had them in the first place. Both a dishonorable discharge and a court protective order prohibit possession of a firearm.

As to why any of us would work for the government? There are as many potential answers as there are government employees.

He was still enlisted and accepted by the Marines...may not have made it through basic
The report quoted Mrs. Poplawski as saying her son, after being kicked out of the Marine Corps for assaulting his drill sergeant during basic training, had been "stockpiling guns and ammunition, buying and selling the weapons online, because he believed that as a result of the economic collapse, the police were no longer able to protect society"....."a discharged Marine, armed himself with an assault rifle, a .22-caliber rifle and a revolver and was wearing a bulletproof vest when he gunned down the officers."

I dunno you tell me...if you tried out for a job and only lasted a few weeks and were washed out of the training program (with what ammounts to a felony conviction) long before completing the BASIC training qualifications. before going on to learn skills in the job, to earn the title of being an Airman, Coast Guard, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Policeman, Fireman, or doctor, teacher, or anything else? Do you really think a few weeks in "basic training" of anything, qualifies one for being called and "Ex" or former anything?

What does that say about the professionals that do/did successfully complete said programs and service, and then went on to do other things or retired? Would you really want to put those who wash out/flunk out in only a few weeks, disgrace themselves, the job, their potential brothers and sisters, and others in the same category?

As pointed out elsewhere, he never was a Marine. He was a Marine Corps Basic Candidate/Trainee and he did not even come close to completing that. He washed out/flunked out in a very bad way.

Phin power and condolences to the friends, family, fellow officers of those whose lives were so tragically and needlessly taken away.

It say's that she told the 911 call taker that he had guns but the information wasn't relayed to the police.

Yes that was said later this morning, not the day before... now 911 is being held accountable, nothing like supporting your team!

It's nice to see some local stores are giving away those small blue bulbs to be used in support of the men in blue. You are to place them in those welcome lights people have. I ran to get the blue bulbs I had packed in Christmas stuff. I did the 3 in memory of the 3 lost.
