2009 NFL Mock Draft

Post by bestseller92 »

I know we already have a "2009 NFL season" thread, but I think the draft is a big enough deal that we can have a separate thread on it, without the draft stuff getting lost at the end of the other thread. (If not, I'm sure someone will deal with it accordingly :) ).

Here's my 2009 NFL mock draft, first round (and I've done very little research so far, so it'll probably bear little resemblance to the actual draft).

1. Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia .
2. St. Louis Rams: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor.
3. K.C. Chiefs: Mark Sanchez, QB, USC.
4. Seattle Seahawks: Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
5. Cleveland Browns: Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas
6. Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
7. Oakland Raiders: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
8. Jacksonville Jags: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
9. G.B. Packers: Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
10. S.F. 49ers Everette Brown, LB, Florida State
11. Buffalo Bills: Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State
12. Denver Broncos: B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
13. Wash. Redskins: Rey Maualuga, LB, USC
14. N.O. Saints: Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
15. Houston Texans: Brian Cushing, LB, USC
16. S.D. Chargers: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
17. N.Y. Jets: Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State
18. Denver Broncos: Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
19. T.B. Buccaneers: Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State
20. Detriot Lions: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
21. Phil. Eagles: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
22. Minnesota Vikings: James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
23. N.E. Patriots: Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi
24. Atlanta Falcons: Clay Matthews, LB, USC
25. Miami Dolphins: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
26. Baltimore Ravens: Eben Britton, OT, Arizona
27. Indy Colts: Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
29. Phil. Eagles: Donald Brown, RB, Connecticutt
30. N.Y. Giants: Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
31. Arizona Cardinals: Evander Hood, DT, Missouri
32. Pittsburgh Steelers: Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina

51. Dallas Cowboys: William Moore, S, Missouri.

I'd expect KC to take Curry rather than Sanchez now.

And there's a long line of people that expect Detroit to pass on Stafford, and take an OT.

That may have changed with the Cutler deal though.

You think the Chiefs are going to draft a QB after they traded for Matt Cassel?

Bonehead mistake: I TOTALLY forgot about the Matt Cassell trade. I think he's overrated, but no, the Chiefs won't take Sanchez. Have to redo the thing when I get time.

Damn, I have no time to be a draftnik anymore :(.

As far at Tennessee goes, I'd look for them to go for a WR, or maybe a big DT to replace Albert Haynesworth.

The Cowboys really need to draft a young offensive lineman or two who can take over for Flozell, etc. in the next year or so.

Then again, with 2010 probably being an UNCAPPED year, Jerry will probably just go out and buy whatever he needs in the free agent market.

The Redskins pick is wrong. What they will do is trade their 1st round pick, and all their other ones, for a few middle aged players at the end of their prime years. If we are really savy, we will also get a couple of water bottles and old footballs.

Seriously though, they need to draft, imo, an offensive tackle. A good offensive line can make a bad quarterback look average, an average quarterback look great and a great quarterback an all pro, Superbowl winning qb.

Having two "great" WRs is overrated. How many Super Bowls did the Dolphins win with the Marks Bros?

A RB would have clinched it for them. They were that close for years. 83-99 the Dolphins had a 1000 yard rusher once. Poor Marino had plenty of people to throw to, but no one to pound the rock.

Stafford sure looks like the "safe" pick at #1 for the Lions, but as a life long Lions fan I am fairly confident that they will either choose a wide receiver or a long snapper with their #1 overall pick. The scary thing is, they probably actually need both! I love that team, but they stink!

Late word is that TT WR Michael Crabtree could do some serious slipping because of attitude issues, and that Florida WR Percy Harvin could suffer slippage as well, due to drug, attitude and past injury problems.

Lions are negotiating a deal with Stafford. They want the deal done before the draft and if its not done, they may go with Plan B. The rumour on Plan B is a deal with Aaron Curry is done.
