I'd have been tempted to talk to the manager.....Tequila Revenge wrote:Yesterday I was buying bird seed at a big box store. The check out lines were really long. Being the sly old dog I am I took my bag O'bird seed to the auto parts counter and the young gal said she's be right back. More sly old dogs had my same idea but I was first in line. I got tired of waiting for the "help" to return. As I was walking over to sporting goods to pay for my bird seed I found young girl down by the motor oil and wiper blades...... texting.

anxiety. I really do not enjoy talking on the phone at all, especially if i haven't talked to someone in a while, because then I feel guilty about not calling them sooner, which makes me even more uncomfortable about calling them.Tequila Revenge wrote:Maybe someone can help here...
So you have this thing called a phone so you can TALK to people. Even carry on a CONVERSATION. If you can TALK to people, what do so many people live to go back to the time of the TELEGRAPH AND WRITE SHORT MESSAGES![]()
I don't get it.
I agree. If it's absolutely necessary (work or emergency, etc) then you should step outside or away from the conversation, just likeVanillaGrl wrote:However, I feel that the popularity of it all, has made for another form of rudeness in today's society. To me, it is extremely annoying to be sitting around with friends, socializing, etc and have someone constantly texting back and forth with someone else. I've seen and experienced it too many times and I guess I just don't get it.![]()

And, for a less neurotic reason, I can "carry on a conversation" via text messages with friends while I am working that I would not be able to over the phone.
And back to the texting and driving part, didn't some woman just get sentenced to 55 years in prison because her texting while driving caused a crash that killed some people?

Agreed. It's a telephone, not a typewriter. Reach out and TALK to someone!!SMLCHNG wrote:Me neither.Tequila Revenge wrote:Maybe someone can help here...

I don't get it.I work with a lady who texts back and forth with her husband and daughter IN THE SAME HOUSE!!
So isn't that what voicemail is for? If you can take the time to view and reply to a text, you can take the time to listen to your voicemails.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Texting can be useful. I can't have my cell phone on at work. My sons can't answer their phone at school. On my break I will often text them about after-school activities, sports practices, pick up times, etc. They can retrieve the texts after school or at lunch and text me back. I'll also send a text if it's important but I know the person won't be able to pick up a voice call on the other end (meeting, etc).

wBEGs, perfectly.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:It's illegal here, but then again so is talking without a hands free device...and both laws are violated constantly. Wake up, people. We got along just fine before cell phones. NO ONE is so important that they must be talking or texting no matter where they are or what they are doing. I am so sick of listening to people's inane conversations everywhere I go. And posting on Facebook while driving...WTF? Technology is a double edged sword, and IMHO largely responsible for this ADHD society that we've become.DWD (driving while distracted) is just as dangerous as DUI.
Simply put, your only job when you're behind the wheel of a car is to DRIVE. Period.

All cell phones that management in my office gets has the text feature turned off because of SEC and NASD regulations for keeping all correspondences leaving any of the financial services company's resources.flipflopgirl wrote:SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Texting can be useful. same with me at work...i can step away into the break room to text someone or reply and it's quicker then a phone call sometimes.

I don't use my phone a lot, but I do use it. For some folks it is the only way I keep in touch with them. I also text, and I agree that texting can be a great way to communicate when a phone call isn't possible. But I don't get these people who go to a restaurant and talk on their phone or text through an entire meal, with no regard to their dining partners or other patrons. Or the ones who can't seem to complete ANY task without being on theri phone. And the people who talk on their phones in public restrooms...ewwwwwwwwwww.
And now with the bluetooth craze, everyone looks like they're freakin' nuts. I now just assume that they are all crazy and talking to themselves.
all depends on the phone. mine lets me text with a full keyboard. the number pad thing.. fehSMLCHNG wrote:I'll take y'alls word on it.flipflopgirl wrote:[same with me at work...i can step away into the break room to text someone or reply and it's quicker then a phone call sometimes.I tried it a while back, and found it to be very cumbersome.
anecdotal evidence has those being a bit more dangerous to one's health than initially thought. Nothing like a radio transmitter next to your skull, emitting radiation all the time.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:I'm going to call Jack and Paige....and put them on speakerphone!![]()

Mostly because I don't want those around me to be hearing my business. Texting is more private than leaving voice mail.Bicycle Bill wrote:Agreed. It's a telephone, not a typewriter. Reach out and TALK to someone!!SMLCHNG wrote:Me neither.Tequila Revenge wrote:Maybe someone can help here...

Personally, I don't text. Not driving, not parked, not sitting on the couch at home, not never. And if someone texts me (which is dambed rare) and it calls for a reply, I will call their number and *TALK* to them, one human being to another.
