They give Pirates a Bad Name

I don't know about you, but the latest versions of Pirates, well they give Pirates a bad name! I know in history there were bad Pirates, mean, narly, just bad to the bone, but they were in folklore at least, somewhat noble adventure loving sailors. (with lots of bad habits) It was billed as a battle on the water for treasure. These guys arrrrr ruining all the folklore. I may have to fly my Jolly Roger at half mast!

Was just having this conversation at work. When did teenage hoodlums with a dingy and baby outboard become 'pirates'? One news article said the pirates were retaliating because their compadres have been attacked. Huh? Is there a pirate union? Are they that organized?

these are Whole Villages that are involved.. Union?? No affiliations??

It is still fighting for treasure.

If I was living in the scum they are, I'm not too sure I wouldn't be doing the same thing. Getting killed for the chance of making a few bucks is probably better than living in those squalid conditions. Pirates be pirates and they are no different.

I was going to do a 2 week section on pirates with the preKers. Had projects, books, treasure hunts, etc all planned.
Was told today, Pirates are too violent.

Find a way to work it into your "Ocean" or "Ready for Summer / Beach" unit. That's what we do ... and, of course Jolly Mon works it's way into circle time

It may be time to send the pirates on TARP money. It's obvious the pirates need a bailout from their toxic behavior.
