Dylan cites Buffett as one of his favorite songwriters

Post by Parrotthed »

The Huffington Post continues an interview with Bob Dylan by Bill Flanagan in which Dylan cites his favorite songwriters. He mentions Jimmy Buffett first.:

B.Flanagan: Who are some of your favorite songwriters?
B.Dylan: Buffett I guess. Lightfoot. Warren Zevon. Randy. John Prine. Guy Clark. Those kinds of writers.
BF: What songs do you like of Buffett's?
BD: "Death of an Unpopular Poet." There's another one called "He Went to Paris."

Dylan was once caught onstage somewhere overseas taking credit for a Prine song, little did he know John Prine himself was in attendance that evening.

That is some compliment indeed. Dylan does not hand out compliments too lightly, so this is nice.

I'd take that with a grain of salt without something to back it up. I've seen Dylan perhaps 30 times in concert and more often than not he barely acknowledges the fact that an audience is even out there anymore, much less go into the songwriting credits for the songs he is performing, whether it is his own composition or someone else's.

And I still can't get this ridiculous image out of my head of Mr. Zimmerman as a parrothead.

LOL, well, people can be surprising, but Dylan as a ParrotHead? Nah, can't picture it, and the thought is scary.

According to A Pirate Looks at Fifty Million, the two are acquaintances.

Dylan and Joan Baez once performed a duet of "A Pirate Looks at Forty," which is cool.

What a great compliment! I'll bet Mr. Buffett is pleased.

Maybe this will get alot of folks to take a closer look at the Buffett body of work! Maybe it will even help get him into the R&R Hall of Fame, long overdue.

I wish the Huffington Post had wider circulation....maybe it will make it into some more mainstream media......

In any event, kudos to Mr Dylan for his excellent taste!!!

I agree!! :D :D And it's made it on the Coconut Telegraph... I just heard it mentioned on a popular / reputable radio station in Chicago.

To me, compliments and kudos from your peers is super cool, and from legendary peers is even better!

TB--I agree with you. A lot of egos fly around in the music industry, and it is very nice when an artist such as Bob Dylan can take the time to humble himself and compliment one of his peers. He does not hand out compliments lightly, so when they are given, the person receiving the compliment certainly is deserving.
