My parents still live north of Indianapolis, where I grew up ( - 1980) - I go back fairly often
Mrs z's family still lives outside Ft Worth near where I lived (1980-1997) - I go back occasionally

In both cases; when I go back some places are familiar, some are not - but they both just feel like "somewhere I used to live"

I think much depends on your motives as to why you want to go back and for how long. I have been back to visit many places from my past, some for my own sake and some to let my daughter see where her family comes from. I wouldn't move back to any of those places and expect it to be anything remotely like it was when I lived there previously.

My parents (and in-laws for that matter), live in the same house they did when I was growing up. I live 45 minutes from them and see them on a regular/semi-regular basis so yes, I go back all the time. Just recently I went back to the area where my hs was and boy has that place changed. I knew they did some contruction but I didn't think it would be as much as I saw. One of these days I'd love to go back and just drive around. I've got no issues with the place I grew up.

What I want to do is go back to the place I spent the first 5 years of my life. It's probably 25 minutes from my house but I just haven't made it there yet. I have only very faint memories of it because I was, at the most, 5 years old when I left.
