This year I hope to celebrate in California wine country by meeting my half-brother (brother from another mother) and his family for the first time in my life.

that's so cool! All of it!

On my 50th b-day, Hubby's brother was in town from AZ. They surprised me by arranging a trip from PA to MD. We stayed on some boats owned by a good friend of my BIL.
This year, my b-day is the day after the Saturday Camden show (father's day), but don't think I am going to the concert....

We make a weekend out of it and stay at a hotel in Stowe, and go listen to the Polka bands and drink lots of beer. Last year, as we walked into the beerhaus, the band was playing a polka version of "Margaritaville". Marilyn looked at me and said " You guys are taking over the frickin' world" while rolling her eyes.
I left just before that and my friends called me and held up the phone so I could hear it.
I'm sorry, there are just SOME things the polka bands should NOT play. We'll have to meet up next year! I love Oktoberfest!
add to that: Stairway to Heaven; Smoke on the Water; and Musicbox Dancer

Last year my birthday was spent in Boise with a bunch of belly dancers. One of my daughter's troupes was performing in Boise, so I drove up the day before my birthday, with the three youngest dancers in the troupe. I spent the weekend hauling them around, taking them out to eat and making sure that they made it to their performances on time.
This year, I expect that I will probably end up doing the same thing, or in otherwords, we don't celebrate my birthday anymore.

I am going to totally snob it up at a friends house at a party. She lives in a waterfront Sydney Harbour property - worth millions - and there are quite a few well known entertainers that are friends of hers coming along! she does a Taurus party every year as it is her partners birthday then - which is at the same time as mine.
I have my little experience seeing how the "other half" live ......
I then go up home to NEwcastle the next day to celebrate my nephews birthday and mine - which is the following day. Our birthdays are two days apart so always go visit the family.

I sent my parents flowers on my 40th birthday, thanking them for giving me life and for all their love and support through the years. They were very surprised and touched. I forgot about that until reading these posts.

I am shameless about my birthday.....I remind people.....and suggest that gifts are appropriate. I love presents.....and I love birthdays!
I will always do the same thing for someone else if I know it's their birthday.
I think they ARE a big deal.....it's the day you were gifted to the world.
The world changed the day you were born......that's worth celebrating!

I prefer not to celebrate my birthday. In fact, for a long time I never told anyone when it was. It's just another day.

as a child My Birthday was never much ( our Family does not do anything big for anything)
so as an adult I have always tried to "do something"
a few years back I drove down the Keys on my BD
I have seen Jimmy, Nickelcreek and the Stones
next year I will be 50 so I am going to spend a week or so in Key West..
maybe not right on my BD.. but for my BD..

My b-day is this Sunday...and we just got back from Key West, which was a most lovely early birthday gift! This weekend, since it's supposed to be about 80 and sunny on Long Island, we're going to pack a picnic lunch of wine and cheese, hike up through a beautiful park to the Long Island sound, relax, and enjoy the sunshine.

My birthday celebrations are usually low key. For my 50th (a few years back) my sister threw me a Buffett theme party at her house. We had a cookout on their back deck. The weather was actually cooperative (May is sometimes "iffy" in Michigan)
My niece and Tom's aunt share the same birthday.
I especially like it when it falls on Mothers day and Mom and I celebrate together.

Just had my 60th and I played golf and drank and ate and had cake and cards with my favorite 12 golfing buddies! It was a surprise. One of my BFs never lets a birthday go by unnoticed. Kinda celebrated all month.

My 40th (quite a ways over the stern at this point) was one of the best: I had moved to RI but my family had not yet joined me, so I was alone. I drove up to Boston, went to Fenway Park and bought a box seat behind the Red Sox dugout. The Tigers (my 2nd favorite AL team) beat the Sox in 12 innings but it was still a great b'day.
On one b'day in my 30s I was escorting some big-wigs during an exercise, so I got to watch an amphibious landing, catch a helo ride out to a ship at sea, and watch people blow all kinds of sh*t up.
Another year it was Kenny Chesney on Thurs in MA followed by JB on Sat in FL followed by a couple of days in KW.
Last year? Not a clue.... Couple of years ago Mac and Fingers did a mini-tour in NC, SC, and GA (ATL). I hit the road for a few days and caught three shows.
This year? Dunno yet. This economy is putting a crimp in our fun....

Maybe Pam and Erin make it a better place. I just make it a grumpier place.
