"It's Not Big, It's Large"

Post by bestseller92 »

I just got the latest Lyle Lovett CD a few days ago (it's from 2007 -- yes, I'm a bit slow sometimes), and it's great.

Lyle is superb as always; typically great, intelligent songwriting coupled with that distinctive voice. If you haven't heard him, or haven't heard him in a while, do yourself a favor and give this record a listen.

Highly recommended.

Great CD. South Texas Girl and All Downhill are my two favorite songs on the album. I love it when he tours with John Hiatt, Guy Clark, and Joe Ely. I had the chance to see him w/ John Hiatt two years ago. The show was all acoustic.

My favorites on this CD are "I Will Rise Up" and "This Traveling Around".

I still say his best album is "Pontiac", though he has others almost as good.

I remember he was on Letterman back in '88, just after "Pontiac" was released, and Letterman called two of the songs on the album ("Simple Song" and "Pontiac", the title track) "haunting". I couldn't describe them any better myself.

One of the videos playing at The Beachcomber when we were there for the Waikiki show was of Jimmy joining Lyle Lovett on stage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May '00 to sing "If I Had a Boat." Sure wish I could get a copy of that video . . . .

http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase ... id%3A77171 "Lovett, a Jazz Fest virgin playing his first New Orleans gig in seven years, not only delivered on the festival's "heritage" by crafting a set noticeably heavy on the jazz and gospel, he also delivered the best unbilled collaboration/sight gag: Jimmy Buffett struggling to share a microphone with the long tall Texan for 'If I Had a Boat.'
