Re: May Concerts in Question?

So - that was my whole point about the bird flu - it was blown way out of proportion.
If you wanna get sick go to a hospital.

Totally agree! The darkly funny part is, if they take Tamiflu when not ill, they could still become ill 2 or 3 weeks later, and at that point the Tamiflu might not work. There's no dumbass vaccine.....Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Your case is understandable, Jen...and you're not taking it unless you feel you've been exposed. I have no problem with situations like yours. I do have a problem with people who haven't been exposed and have NO symptoms whatsoever taking it, and the "survivalists" that are hoarding it. Perhaps we ought to lock them in a room with MRSA, maybe they'll rethink their plan.![]()
Uh stupid question.. Why cancel?? only a small amount of people fly to each show..wanderingtoes wrote:With the latest round of news this morning, it looks like May Concert schedule could be in trouble. The news seems to be turning more toward being safer means being in a less crowed space. Not sure if you saw VP Joe Biden today but he said he would not have his family fly and would not recommend riding a subway. This may be much worse than we know and a cancelled concert may be the least worry. Wishing everyone the best!
I don't think it's the flying but the gathering of so many people in one place.ragtopW wrote:Uh stupid question.. And consider this.
I was heading to Isle of Palms Saturday, April 25, via I-26 and the Cuz
Bridge. Of course Charleston looked like a tropical destination that day
from atop the bridge. It was a beautiful day and the sky was clear. There
wasn't a cloud in sight. Sails dotted the harbor along with wakes of power
boats and Fort Sumter was easily visible standing guard at the harbor
entrance.
A cruise ship was docked at the State Ports Authority terminal and I began
to wonder where she had been. The likelihood of it having been to Mexico
was slim. But I quickly realized that it really didn't matter. Even if the ship
had been to the Caribbean it surely could have passengers aboard who had interacted with
passengers from other cruise ships at a busy port-of-call, and those other
passengers may have been to Mexico or been in contact with other cruisers
who had. And now those travelers were being dumped off in Charleston for a
bit to go shoulder to shoulder with other tourists and Charlestonians at and
around The Market. Although cruise ships are large and roomy they are still
a great place for contagious diseases to spread like wildfire.
A quick internet check revealed that the cruise ship was The Norwegian
Majesty. She holds about 2000 souls including passengers and crew. So even
if the ship arrived empty, the chance for about 1400 cruisers boarding that
day was real and they began an immediate interaction with a crew of 600 who
had called on ports where they may have been exposed to Swine Flu. I think
their return date is May 2. Let's hope they don't bring home an unwelcomed
bug.

I'm in the travel industry. I agree completely. Well said.
Now that was really funny. I think I might have to print that and put it on my Tiki Bar....Brown Eyed Girl wrote:This made me snort...![]()

What will really cause problems are all the people who are somehow mananaging to get prescriptions for Tamiflu when they aren't sick. Behavior like that is what causes these viruses to mutate into something really unmanageable.
It's scary that the trucks delivering Tamiflu to various hospitals, clinics and distribution warehouses have to do so with armed escorts. We truly are our own worst enemy.![]()

Note the copyright date on the cartoon (2003) and the markings on the gauze mask ("SARS-BEGONE"). Apparently what goes around comes around.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:This made me snort...![]()

I knew it was from SARS, but it was too funny and too timely not to post.Bicycle Bill wrote:Note the copyright date on the cartoon (2003) and the markings on the gauze mask ("SARS-BEGONE"). Apparently what goes around comes around.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:This made me snort...![]()

Either that, or there's nothing new under the sun.

Yeah, you would think that to be true, but..........LIPH wrote:Joe Biden speaks English. We shouldn't need a translator to tell us what he meant to say.
