So - that was my whole point about the bird flu - it was blown way out of proportion.

If you wanna get sick go to a hospital.

Perhaps we ought to lock them in a room with MRSA, maybe they'll rethink their plan. :o
Totally agree! The darkly funny part is, if they take Tamiflu when not ill, they could still become ill 2 or 3 weeks later, and at that point the Tamiflu might not work. There's no dumbass vaccine.....

This may be much worse than we know and a cancelled concert may be the least worry. Wishing everyone the best!
Uh stupid question.. Why cancel?? only a small amount of people fly to each show..
most are home teamers.. and tailgating means your own rig..
no subway needed (MSG isn't on the May Schedule)

I don't think it's the flying but the gathering of so many people in one place.

This would have to get far worse before we should even think about canceling concerts and sporting events (except for events in schools/school districts with confirmed cases).

And consider this.
I was heading to Isle of Palms Saturday, April 25, via I-26 and the Cuz
Bridge. Of course Charleston looked like a tropical destination that day
from atop the bridge. It was a beautiful day and the sky was clear. There
wasn't a cloud in sight. Sails dotted the harbor along with wakes of power
boats and Fort Sumter was easily visible standing guard at the harbor
entrance.

A cruise ship was docked at the State Ports Authority terminal and I began
to wonder where she had been. The likelihood of it having been to Mexico
was slim. But I quickly realized that it really didn't matter. Even if the ship
had been to the Caribbean it surely could have passengers aboard who had interacted with
passengers from other cruise ships at a busy port-of-call, and those other
passengers may have been to Mexico or been in contact with other cruisers
who had. And now those travelers were being dumped off in Charleston for a
bit to go shoulder to shoulder with other tourists and Charlestonians at and
around The Market. Although cruise ships are large and roomy they are still
a great place for contagious diseases to spread like wildfire.

A quick internet check revealed that the cruise ship was The Norwegian
Majesty. She holds about 2000 souls including passengers and crew. So even
if the ship arrived empty, the chance for about 1400 cruisers boarding that
day was real and they began an immediate interaction with a crew of 600 who
had called on ports where they may have been exposed to Swine Flu. I think
their return date is May 2. Let's hope they don't bring home an unwelcomed
bug.

I'm in the travel industry. I agree completely. Well said.

By the time Irvine is here, either this will be contained or out of hand. If it is out of hand it won't be up to Jimmy to decide if he's having a concert or not, the CDC will have the government step in.

I agree, the media will talk us into a panicked frenzy regarding this. Turn off the T.V. The best place to get your info is the CDC website and the WHO website. They know what their talking about and don't blow it out of proportion. Stay informed and pay attention.

This flu like most flu's is the most dangerous for the very young, old, or those with a compromised immune system. I have an auto-immune disease. I have an 83 year old father. I'm paying attention.

I've seen the term paranoia used here. Let's hope it's just that. Why? Simple. Paranoia is a serious condition which is all about delusion and irrational reactions, not a real threat. We throw the word around like we throw the word introvert around. These are serious ailments. Let's hope paranoia truly applies in this situation.

We simply have to make our own judgements and do what we feel is best. But "if" the threat is serious and real, then those who feel as if there is no threat are the ones who are likley to help spread the disease as they will travel and attend crowded events as usual.

Don't get defensive now. I'm just saying be careful.

This sort of reminds me of the early days and months after 9/11. The apprehension and anxiety that was on everyone's mind in determing whether to attend any event where a large crowd was expected (sporting events, concerts, etc). In the end, you exercise the proper judgement and move on.

What will really cause problems are all the people who are somehow mananaging to get prescriptions for Tamiflu when they aren't sick. Behavior like that is what causes these viruses to mutate into something really unmanageable.

It's scary that the trucks delivering Tamiflu to various hospitals, clinics and distribution warehouses have to do so with armed escorts. We truly are our own worst enemy. :-?
Are you going to be there, Kath? Isn't that where yo' ol' man hangs out? 8)  [smilie=beadygrinner.gif]
Yup, I be there. Fly in a week from Monday, then we're going to the mountains til Wed. nite.

We're still hoping for Sandy Eggo, too....so you'll get to meet him cuz we'll be crashing your party!

Note the copyright date on the cartoon (2003) and the markings on the gauze mask ("SARS-BEGONE"). Apparently what goes around comes around.
Either that, or there's nothing new under the sun.

Biden needs to be muzzled. Of course y'all know what he said but I like Gibbs' reponses better. These are great:

"I think he said something on TV differently than what he meant to say."

"I understand what he said, and I’m telling you what he meant to say."

Joe Biden speaks English. We shouldn't need a translator to tell us what he meant to say.
