Not gonna do it. I guess I'll take my chances outraging my lower middle class neighbors.
I think there's middle ground. I don't buy cheap crap either; I buy quality. But I wouldn't wear expensive shoes to a Food Bank. I think it's rude. Or worse yet, tacky....
Anyone who actually attended that function and who may have decided to harp on the first lady's shoes first while overlooking the larger picture of charity and volunteerism that the event was all about has their priorities too out of whack for me.

I do understand this after-the-fact online discussion, similar discussions occurred about the previous administration too, but these types of "issues" it smack me of being petty.
I guess it's not petty to me. And it's not a partisan issue; it bugs me when rich people in public service don't tone it down. I'm flat out middle class and the nicest pair of shoes I own is a pair of leather cowboy boots. If I were working at a food bank (or other charity event) I'd be in my flip flops or sneakers, not the boots. Just courtesy is all, to me.

I'm not outraged. I've had way too long a day dealing with truly outrageous issues.... But it does bug me, just like it bugged me several years ago when the Bushes thought grocery store scanners where new and amazing, although they'd been around for quite a while. It shows our leaders are out of touch with the average person.

W. grew up rich.
Obama did not.

W's main home is a ranch he owned, yet did virtually nothing to earn.
Obama home is in an ungated Chicago suburb.

If it is only occurring to some people here that a cultural divide has existed, and grown much wider over these last 10 years, then
I certainly don't have enough money to they would need to buy that clue!!!

Get over it, people... and be thankful you still have your jobs.

Please help my memory...

ummmmmmm......

Wasn't it just about 7 months ago when we were all told how Michelle shoped at modest stores and wore the same clothes as other middle class Americans? Remember this was about the same time SARAH PALIN was being bashed because she wore clothes that were deemed out of touch and outlandishly expensive even though same clothes were bought for her?

I know I'm probably wrong.

It's likely Michelle got hers through Ikram, the Chicago retailer that often outfits her.
It's "likely"? Could they have been a gift from a girlfriend? Bought with a gift certificate from her husband, when he didn't know what to get her? Slightly irregulars bought at Filene's Basement? Maybe they have Dom Perignon gel insoles and really cost $1,000. Beats me, and I hesitate to judge without knowing more details. Actually, I wouldn't judge if I knew the details. Too many more important things to worry about. And I've been married long enough to know that you don't question the price of a woman's shoes. You just smile and say they look nice.

But your old too :P

Seriously, I even thought I saw a feature about Michelle's fashion in one of those magazines you see in the grocery store check out line. Her spending on clothes makes Sarah's gifts look thrift store cheap

Again, I know it's the meds that make me think like this.... maybe it was the 120 hours spent in San Francisco... I dunno?

I was trying not to slam our new president so soon but I just saw this on-line and thought wow the economy must really not be as bad as they say if Mrs. Obama is wearing $540 sneakers (WTF :o ). Actually the biggest outrage should be that she wore them to a D.C. food bank. This administration is spending BILLIONS like it's no big deal and telling us all that it is the only way to save everything but with the $300,000+ photo op of Air force One over NYC and these sneakers it looks like the White House is not cutting back at all.

AGAIN WTF!!! :o :o :o
I just did a quick inventory of my clothes and I found out I DO NOT nor have I ever had a pair of shoes that cost any where near $500. I think I need a shoe stimulus 8) How can I go out and sell my products and services everyday without $500 shoes? I'll be reasonable. I only need $250 shoes :P    Maybe some Jimmy Shoes....

If Jimmy is half the businessman I think he is, there's probably a shipment of Margaritaville flip flops on their way to Washington already. :D

Dude..... chicks wear (even Michelle O) wear these hi heals called Jimmy Chu's (sp?) they have red soles so EVERYONE knows you're wearing $300 shoes [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

Jimmy B would need to REALLY RAISE HIS PRICES to compete with Mr. Chu. Please note Mr. Chu DOES NOT have a record label, shrimp, tequila, beer, restaraunt chain, or a clothing line 8)

For ME? Because I'm more of a practical person. I think $500 for a tennis shoe is ridiculous, no matter who is wearing them.

My knowledge of shoes is limited to knowing I just got a great deal on $12 Deckers. Maybe I should paint the soles red? :-?

But you're quickly becoming my "go-to guy" for fashion. First it was Dittos, now ladies footwear. What can you tell me about the Vera Wang spring line?
