Re: So where's the outrage?
People have been encouraged to be divided by politicians and pundits in the US. As someone who spends most of my island time here with Canadians, who are also from North America but don't seem to feel the need to be so opinionated and aggressive, it seems to be a characteristic that has become particularly "American" recently. You really do notice it on US blogs, commentaries, opinion polls, and the like. It IS one of the things that makes being American often embarrassing for expatriates. Perhaps the fact that so many trivialities are reported as 'news' Stateside also contributes to it!

How disheartening. Underneath all of the division, we are all more alike than different, I believe.

No . . . it's cuz she wore them in public! As an alternative, she coulda sent someone down to the local Target to get her something cheaper to wear to the foodbank. But then, Rush and Billo wold be carrying on about how it cost the taxpayers THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!! to get her a pair of cheap shoes to wear . . . . and then she'd be a phony for that too . . . . .citcat wrote:Let me get this straight....this thread started because our First Lady bought a certain brand of TENNIS SHOES ????![]()

I'm certainly no fan of the Obamas, but I figure if I can wear a $500.00 pair of shoes, why can't the first lady of the U.S. do the same.

No, but I was once told that by someone on this very board so I just figured I'd use it when I had the change. Actually the thread is going exactly how I wanted it too. Which was to stir up converstaion from both views. This is still America and people can agree or disagree as they see fit.RinglingRingling wrote:so the thread didn't exactly go the way you wanted it toCrznDnUS1 wrote:Let's get back to talking about your favorite boat drink. As someone who has dressed Nancy Reagan and a ton of Texas politicians' wives, I can tell you that the person wearing the clothes don't always know (1) where they came from (2) if they were donated or purchased or (3) how much the items cost.ph4ever wrote:Is it too far fetched to think she may have just grabbed a pair she liked or that were comfortable? What if the shoes were given to her? Or what if she put on what was put in front of her? What if someone else went shopping for her - a la Sarah Palin - and she liked the shoes without seeing a price tag? What if she didn't have a clue how much they cost? Maybe her social secretary picked out her clothes from a closet full of stuff they've been accumulating for her?
Leave her alone. For real. She has actually worn a dress twice since he took office ... how many times has any other first lady recycled their wardrobe within the first three months or so?

Re: So where's the outrage?
So true, that's why I suggested to start talking 'Buffetty things' this is no worse (actually much less) than they fly-over or bailing out banks who now need tens of billions more just to stay afloat and none of it has really trickled down to us. Now thats mind boggling how no one is really outraged at that!East Texas Parrothead wrote:$500 sneakers don't bother me nearly as much as the fly over debacle ... someone's head should roll for that one.

But wait, YOU are the one who tried to stoke the flames of outrage over the sneakers. Was that last week's outrage and you have moved on to this week's outrage?CrznDnUS1 wrote:So true, that's why I suggested to start talking 'Buffetty things' this is no worse (actually much less) than they fly-over or bailing out banks who now need tens of billions more just to stay afloat and none of it has really trickled down to us.East Texas Parrothead wrote:$500 sneakers don't bother me nearly as much as the fly over debacle ... someone's head should roll for that one.
Not saying that I agree or disagree with her fashion decisions when she is giving of herself charitably, just trying to see where you're crzn to.

I overstated my outrage over this kind of character assasination a few days ago in a similar attack thread,
but that does not change the fact that key influential players in our economy see signs of hope coming sooner than later.
..and it's not ironic that that character's name is Buffett... but ....not Jimmy

Yeah. About yesterday. They hammered him because he asked for spicy mustard ... like Poupon ... give them a break. It's no wonder it's hard to find anyone with integrity to run for public office. We treat them like dirt.moeron wrote:Yesterday, the President and Vice were eating out at a greasy spoon, Hamburgers, fries. Obama Insisted that he pay for the food. Re: So where's the outrage?
It seems there is more "outrage" that someone questioned the First Lady's wearing of $540.00 shoes when it was previously reported that she shops in "modest stores". Someone even said it was racist to do so. I don't know of any store I would consider "modest" that sells $540.00 shoes. I am not sure that I know of anyone that actually would.
Considering the way the the current President has told us, everyone needs to cut back, tighten our belts, whatever. It is clearly hipocrisy, when she does such.
Then again they are clearly rich. They don't have to cut back do they? What are they doing to tighten their belts and cut back? Meanwhile the rest of us have to make do and get by as best we can. Lead by example. (Like that will ever happen from ANY politician from any party! I suppose there might one out there somewhere.)
I don't care what she wears or how she spends HER money. The way her hubby is spending us into oblivion, I guess none of it really matters and will never have any dire effects on them. As I said before how many of those people could she have fed for what she spent on those shoes? I do appreciate the fact she did volunteer.
Certainly if she could afford those shoes, she could have donated a sizeable ammount of cash or bought a couple of semis or more, full of food to be donated, to the very worthy cause. I hope she did contribute more than just her presence and continues to do so.
Again, I don't care what she wears, as long as we the taxpayer are not buying it and she spends her own money. However, why should anyone deny or ignore the hypocrisy, and attack/condemn those that actually do find hypocrisy in the situation?

Re: So where's the outrage?
If you would look back at the very first post, I mention the sneakers, fly-over and spending all at the same time. The main issue is that if someone is giving away +$800 BILLION how does a bank who got it the first time and now wants more become a new thing? My main issue was why the biased media does not say boo about any of this? Maybe I mislabled the thread and it should have read "Where is the outrage, media?" or would they have been labeled racist as I was.Y-NO-9-O wrote:But wait, YOU are the one who tried to stoke the flames of outrage over the sneakers. Re: So where's the outrage?
While so many were on the "second coming high" of the "savior" Obama...I sat back keeping up front the one thing that they all seemed to have forgotten.
He's a politician!!!
One of my favorite movie lines is from The Departed and it applies here. I will reword it accordingly.
"Taxpayers are like mushrooms; feed them s#@$ and keep them in the dark."
That's a politician's job.
Trusting a politician is like giving your car keys to a car thief.
You can hope for him to return your car but don't expect it.
The best you can do is hope that your car doesn't get damaged or end up in a chop shop.
