2009 SPRING/SUMMER SHOPPING REPORT

With the summer season fast approaching and the new concert season already here I thought I would share with you items I've found this weekend while I was out shopping that might be of interest to you.

First of all our local Dollar Tree store just finished putting up their complete display of luau items. Among my favorites is the paper plates and napkins with two colorful Parrots surrounded by tropical flowers palm trees and an ocean/island background. PERFECT for tailgating and any pre concert tailgating. There are 20 napkins in a package and 17 square plates all for only $1 a package. Can't beat it. I bought several packages for prec oncert tailgating. Then bought a few more for when we listen to the concerts on RM and have set list parties. They also have the usual assortments of tropical wind socks and garden flags. As well as an assortment of leis and tropical flower hair clips and grass skirts etc.

WalMart, also has tiki themed paper plates and napkins. Their price is $2 a package. Not quite as colorful as the ones mentioned above but definitely fit into the Parrothead theme. They also have luau wall signs and banners. My personal favoite item here is the choice of a parrot, palm tree or tropical flower pinyata (however it is spelled). Sorry I didn't see a price marked yet on those. But they are a nice size and colorful. Then there are the beach towels in several parrothead themes such as flip flop, shark amd pirate.

Target has an assortment of melamite dishes. IMHO they are not as tropical themed as previous years and the ones I've seen were palm trees with monkeys. Again they have the ceramic drink dispensers. I'll keep you posted if I find anything outstanding. The one item I did find that was a true novelity was is in their housewares section on a wall display. They have a paring knife with a shark handle. I think the price was $12.95. The display was just being set up so I will check to see if anything else is there that might be of interest. ALso check out their beach towels. They are very good quality, soft and reasonable priced.

Fun Party stores has a nice luau display as always. They have everything from tropical 3d baloons to the inflatable palm tree coolers.

Bon Ton has 3D light up lawn decorations such as pink flamingos and palm trees. However my fave is the 3D Margarita glass lamp to sit on your tiki bar or tiki deck rail. I think it is positively awesome. I recommend you wait for a sale but this store at least in this area always has a sale going on. This item is in the $50-$70 rane cause it comes in two different sizes.

Remember to check the various dollar stores for the mylar 3D baloons. There here for the $1 price and are regular size.

I'm still finding flip flop car mats at various car supply stores. Found mine at Target but have seen them in different stores.

As I find more items I'll update this post. Please do the same.

Buying concert tailgating accessories for the 2009 season has begun! [smilie=coolup.gif]

Isn't funny how we find ourselves rummaging through this kind of stuff the minute the stores put it out ? We're wearing shorts & flipflops while others still have on their jeans & sweaters........ :o

Let the fin begin and thanks for the merchandise updates! :pirate:

Going to the market in a bit, will check, but here in Akron, they don't get in the summer spirit until July sometimes. :-?

Target has their flip flop, flamingo and other beach towels on sale this week, I think the ad said 8 bucks. I've been waiting for them to go on sale. I have a gift card from Christmas and I refuse to use it on just everyday stuff, so I will use it to buy some new beach towels that I really don't need.

I will check the jello situation here in Cali. I bought a few boxes of pineapple jello when I saw it, not that I make jello shots but in case someone was going to.

I've been keeping an eye out for the Jell-O but no such luck yet. Seems it isn't out till Memorial Day weekend or after. That is a little to close for comfort with the Pgh concert less than a month later. Others have seen the Jell-O at WalMart. Our most local WalMart last year never carried it in any tropical flavors like pina colada or strawberry daquiri.

Finally found it at Gian Eagle supermarket. Bought some extra boxes. It has a long expiration date so ws able to save some for this season.

I think Wegmans grocery store would be another good place to find it. They carry neat stuff like that.

Your so right!! That description fits me perfectly. I love looking for this stuff. I've also found that you don't have to pay a lot for some of the neatest things.

Last summer I had a great time at the Dollar Store where I found tropical colored flip flop tea light holders. Yes, $1 a piece. I thought I hit the jackpot. The pattern on the flips were hawaiian flowers. I bought several. Then at the same store I found a six pack of battery operated tea lights to use with them. I put them on my tiki deck at night when we have dinner and set list night parties. It just fits the mood perfectly.

I hear you......If I get any gift cards even for restaurants I'll save them for when I travel. You can find so many of the chain restaurants like Olive Garden, Red Lobster etc. in most states.

Also gift cards for any of the clothing stores I'll save for the spring/summer selections to be brought out.

They are crazy if they think I'm using them for any normal practical item. I'm going to use them for something that makes me smile and feel good.

It's like I told my family a long time ago. Being a parrothead isn't a phase. It is a way of life!! So don't waste your time waiting for me to get over it.

As long as you keep it cool and dry (think 'freezer' Image, preferably the one you didn't shoot six holes in!), shelf-life on something like that is merely a suggestion.....

Which ones did you buy?

Last year I bought the dark pink with the flip flop. It is one of my favorite beach towels.

My favorite Wal Mart item this year is the drink glass (daquari shaped) with the grass skirt & coconut bra.

Too bad you can't order the margarita flavor online, because I've looked everywhere around me (Memphis, Nashville, Paducah, etc.) for it in the past and they have never had it.
I may google it and see if it's sold online anywhere.

I saw those. They are cute. I'll probably get a couple for the collection.
