2009 SPRING/SUMMER SHOPPING REPORT

With the summer season fast approaching and the new concert season already here I thought I would share with you items I've found this weekend while I was out shopping that might be of interest to you.
First of all our local Dollar Tree store just finished putting up their complete display of luau items. Among my favorites is the paper plates and napkins with two colorful Parrots surrounded by tropical flowers palm trees and an ocean/island background. PERFECT for tailgating and any pre concert tailgating. There are 20 napkins in a package and 17 square plates all for only $1 a package. Can't beat it. I bought several packages for prec oncert tailgating. Then bought a few more for when we listen to the concerts on RM and have set list parties. They also have the usual assortments of tropical wind socks and garden flags. As well as an assortment of leis and tropical flower hair clips and grass skirts etc.
WalMart, also has tiki themed paper plates and napkins. Their price is $2 a package. Not quite as colorful as the ones mentioned above but definitely fit into the Parrothead theme. They also have luau wall signs and banners. My personal favoite item here is the choice of a parrot, palm tree or tropical flower pinyata (however it is spelled). Sorry I didn't see a price marked yet on those. But they are a nice size and colorful. Then there are the beach towels in several parrothead themes such as flip flop, shark amd pirate.
Target has an assortment of melamite dishes. IMHO they are not as tropical themed as previous years and the ones I've seen were palm trees with monkeys. Again they have the ceramic drink dispensers. I'll keep you posted if I find anything outstanding. The one item I did find that was a true novelity was is in their housewares section on a wall display. They have a paring knife with a shark handle. I think the price was $12.95. The display was just being set up so I will check to see if anything else is there that might be of interest. ALso check out their beach towels. They are very good quality, soft and reasonable priced.
Fun Party stores has a nice luau display as always. They have everything from tropical 3d baloons to the inflatable palm tree coolers.
Bon Ton has 3D light up lawn decorations such as pink flamingos and palm trees. However my fave is the 3D Margarita glass lamp to sit on your tiki bar or tiki deck rail. I think it is positively awesome. I recommend you wait for a sale but this store at least in this area always has a sale going on. This item is in the $50-$70 rane cause it comes in two different sizes.
Remember to check the various dollar stores for the mylar 3D baloons. There here for the $1 price and are regular size.
I'm still finding flip flop car mats at various car supply stores. Found mine at Target but have seen them in different stores.
As I find more items I'll update this post. Please do the same.
