Woo-hoo! Pens with a BIG win tonight 7-4. Malkin with a hat trick including a sick, blind, backhander to the top shelf.

Gotta admit.....that was a highlight goal of highlight goals.
HOWEVER.....as a "old school" guy I was thinking "what the hell is Ward doing on his knees" giving room up there. Just STAND UP and hug the post dude!

All goalies in the NHL could work in the Red Light District in Amsterdam - they all go down.
There's a pretty damn good reason Malkin scored that incredible goal - he knew to shoot high.
Goal of the year.

No sweep of the Blackhawks for the Red Wings this year.

Looks like the Hurricanes are gonna get swept! WOW. I really didn't think that would happen.
Hell of a hit. Can't quite understand the penalty:

Its a good hit, except Kronwall leaves his feet and Havlat never touches the puck. That's what makes it an interference penalty. The league reviewed the hit and no suspension which is the right call.
If Havlat touched the puck, then its no penalty.

I've heard a lot on hockey boards about this hit... Chicago is almost unanimous that it was a dirty hit... Detroit is saying clean... anouncers are saying clean (but I think they're sort of biased so I don't count their opinion)....
The problem is Kronwell is known for hard (some people say dirty) checks and he had to know that Marty Havlat had his head down when he went into him....Clean hit or not it was totally unnecessary for him to come up on him like that which is why I think the penalty was assessed....I could make an argument for Mike Brown flattening Rudy Hudler in the third game of that series as well...
That said Chicago didn't take advantage of the 5:00 power play so it's a moot point anyway.... Cromwell's ejection balances out Marty Havlat being knocked out of the game so no disadvantage to Detroit either...

Last night on Hockey Night in Canada, Don Cherry, who is known as a defender of hard hits, said due to the fact Havlat never touched the puck the hit deserved a penalty, and said the refs called it right, with no further league action needed. I tend to agree with that.

Everything the Blackhawks do, the Red Wings do that much better. I think the Red Wings losing on Friday night only made them more angry. Hopefully the Blackhawks will take this series and learn and grow from it.

I don't have a problem with the Hawks losing, Detroit is the better team and has more experience.. I think the Hawks will be back next year....
However I DO have a problem with the NHL fining Joe Q for his comments... Babcock had quite a bit more to say about the bad refereeing in game 3 and all he got was a "slap on the wrist"?
(Of course he "sheltered" his intent by mentioning that refs weren't allowed to have a "bad game"...unfortunately he got a LOT of good calls in the game as a result.)
(I needed to look this one up to verify what I remembered was said

)
But that said I noticed at least two offsides on the Wings that weren't called and at least ONE resulted in a goal... Someone else on another message board pointed out that a Detroit player had a broken stick at the time another goal was scored (instead of dropping it, he kept playing with it... that could have led to injury if he would have struck someone with it and it's considered a penalty if you're caught...)
On the offsides, looked like Detroit did a good job of fooling the linesman on the play so hats off to them on that... Unfortunately the Hawks DIDN'T do as good a job

...

Older fans will remember this guy, I have a Flyers #25 jersey with his name on the back:
Eds: APNewsNow.
TORONTO (AP) - Peter Zezel, a center who played 15 NHL seasons
after breaking into the league with the Philadelphia Flyers as a
teenager, has died. He was 44.
Zezel struggled with a rare blood disease called hemolytic
anemia the past 10 years. He suffered from the ailment off and on,
but had rebounded after being in critical condition in 2001.
The Toronto Sun reported that Zezel was admitted to the hospital
last week for scheduled surgery, but complications developed and
his conditioned worsened. The gritty center who became known for
his strong two-way game died Tuesday.
In 873 NHL games with Philadelphia, St. Louis, Washington,
Toronto, Dallas, New Jersey and Vancouver, Zezel had 219 goals and
389 assists.
