Crosby broke a long standing tradition last night by hoisting the Prince of Wales trophy. He said that he's trying to change things up since the Pens' loss in the finals last year to Detroit. Looking back at history, Mario Lemieux touched the trophy both years the Pens won the Cup.
It's the first time that teams meet in the finals in consecutive years since '83 and '84 when the Islanders and Oilers took turns winning the Cup.
I'm tired of Detroit so....
GO PENS!!!

The problem is Kronwell is known for hard (some people say dirty) checks and he had to know that Marty Havlat had his head down when he went into him....Clean hit or not it was totally unnecessary for him to come up on him like that which is why I think the penalty was assessed....I could make an argument for Mike Brown flattening Rudy Hudler in the third game of that series as well...
That said Chicago didn't take advantage of the 5:00 power play so it's a moot point anyway.... Cromwell's ejection balances out Marty Havlat being knocked out of the game so no disadvantage to Detroit either...
No body checks are NECESSARY. It just helps you wear down the opposition and make the other team more passive when handling the puck, thus giving your team a better chance of winning.

I am a Chicago fan, but I did not think it was a dirty hit. Was it an incredibally vicious hit-absolutely. Was it a dirty hit, not really.

TORONTO (AP) - Peter Zezel, a center who played 15 NHL seasons
after breaking into the league with the Philadelphia Flyers as a
teenager, has died. He was 44.
Zezel struggled with a rare blood disease called hemolytic
anemia the past 10 years. He suffered from the ailment off and on,
but had rebounded after being in critical condition in 2001.
The Toronto Sun reported that Zezel was admitted to the hospital
last week for scheduled surgery, but complications developed and
his conditioned worsened. The gritty center who became known for
his strong two-way game died Tuesday.
In 873 NHL games with Philadelphia, St. Louis, Washington,
Toronto, Dallas, New Jersey and Vancouver, Zezel had 219 goals and
389 assists.

Actually that's not QUITE the correct shot at contact... at the last second Kromwells entire shoulder and elbow go up (almost as if he is pulling away from the check)... Thus his elbow or shoulder DOES make contact with MH's head... But in any case the action was way too fast to call and neither referee was in postion to make the correct call...
Part of it may have had to do with the fact that the foul happened in Chicago... It probably would NOT have been assessed in Detroit....
I give my congratulations to the Wings on a well played game... I'm also proud of my Blackhawks because I feel that they redeemed themselves from game 4... Chris Osgood made a couple of incredible saves that kept his team in the game...
Here's hoping that Detroit is able to bring it against the Penguins.. (I think they can, but only time will tell.) I'll be rooting for the Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals
(Just so some people don't think my previous post was "sour grapes" )

A. You should feel proud of the B-Hawks. They got their feet wet this year. With a little tweaking they should take a step up next season. B. Other than game 4 they played quite disciplined & hung in very well....which is what you need to do in a playoff series. C. Okay, I'll go ahead and say it....if Khabiboulin doesn't get hurt maybe game 4 looks a little different....but Huet played FANTASTIC last night. That game could have been over after 2 periods!
Thanks for the kudos....we're hopeful the Wings can keep their mojo going and take down the Pens. It will be no easy task. But here in Michigan we need all the Good vibes we can get!
Looking forward to continuing the RIVALRY with the Hawks.

Very nicely said....in a small weird way the Blackhawks remind me of the young Chicago Bull teams of the late 80's and early 90's going up against the Pistons. The Blackhawks will get there. They have a lot to work on.

One the refs do not call ever is the almost to the red line shots to dump the puck in. 9 times out of 10 they are behind the red line - and they never get called for icing.
Huet's got a great future. Hell of a goalie.
Kronwall hit - he was obviously playing the man and Halvat (indeed a dirty player and a bit of a cry baby) was about to get the puck - it's not that easy to stop when you probably don't notice the dude doesn't have the puck yet. It would have been a clean hit if he didn't leave his feet.

I think Huet definitely stepped up last night....he was unreal...he definitely put his team on his back last night...
