I'm older than dirt. I remember when it was Jimmy in a bar. If he was lucky, there were two speakers and both of them worked.

He was a total chick magnet. 1,000 watt smile. Moustache. Killer dimples. Long, curly hair. Every female within 10 blocks was in heat. He didn't seem to care if it was a crowd of 10 or 100 ... but he ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS knew what the take at the door was. Didn't matter how messed up he was or what girl was taking him home, he knew how many greenbacks were going with them, so I'm not surprised that he's a gazillionaire.

However, I would still like to see him - just one more time - at a bar. Just him ... or like I said in an earlier post ... Mac could sit in and JJW and WAR could do a tune or two, but I'd really just like to see just Jimmy and hear a few of the songs without the carnival once before I croak. 8)
Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.
My love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain.

At Rouses a 12 of LS was $14.79 or something strange like that while Bud was $10 something.

So I've got a sharp tongue. Is there a particular era of Buffett's career that I have to wave a flag for here? We're talking about NOW, not last year, not 1993 or 1977. Sure it's hilarious that he's done this. It's huge. What, do y'all work for the French Quarter Historical Society? They get mad at anyone that wants to do something that is actually in step with the history (this occurs all over New Orleans actually) because they can't make up their mind what era they're trying to preserve.

It's just very...weird.

It just brings to mind - what next? Starbucks?

As in doing something.

I've said plenty of positive things about Jimmy. I am not the only one that thinks this is strange and 'over the top'. I just happen to be the most honest.
Obviously I haven't read all your posts. Like someone said, usually I'm busy. But I have read a lot of them, usually because I know, whether I'll agree or not, I'll be entertained. And I'm certainly not questioning your honesty. I've even agreed with you from time to time. I'm just curious, and you touched on it a little with a later post on this thread, where your affinity for Jimmy lies, because the majority of your posts have a disgruntled-bordering-on-antagonistic edge to them. My assumption is that you used to be a big fan and you've grown bitter and disillusioned over the years and you take it almost personally. It's like you're trying to tell us all that we may think it's all good now, but it isn't, it's not as good as it used to be and never will be and you're going to make sure we all know that.

MTV banned the video because they thought it was too controversial.

This note's for you video

Ironically you have to sit through a commercial before the video starts.  And for those of you too young to remember, the beginning spoofs the michelob ads that were popular at the time.

he also mocks Michael Jackson which, at the time, was the bigger affront to MTV.

problem is... who's listening?... or maybe it's "who can afford to listen?"

When Neil Young played here last fall, you could get tickets 2 for 1 a few weeks before the show... way overpriced.
We may love & appreciate the artist, we may own Harvest in vinyl (I do)... but he isn't selling product worth a damn these days.

It's got to be nice to have enough older publishing royalties checks to fall back on
when you decide to bite the hand that feeds so many others.

Don't ya think Jimmy has enough royalty checks to " fall back on" that he doesn't need to sell himself out on aregular basis?

I do.. I do.
I just get the feeling that with this mega-selling machine he's created, he feels that it's his obligation to keep the snowball rolling (ironic term, huh?)
It's either that... or just choosing to believe that he's sum kinda greedy bastid. :-?

Who are WE to judge or determine how much ANYONE makes? All of us who have investments and/or a 401K, have lost money.
So many folks think that all the money JB might make goes right to the bank. I'm pretty sure he has expenses for so many things, just like the rest of us.
