Friends of ours (brothers) that have fallen on hard times - it's that or the streets/homeless shelters. They install flat panel TV's and surround systems and other stuff like that. There's virtually no business right now. They've signed on at the union hall and paid their union dues to do highway construction (they have past experience) but the big project hasn't started yet and the smaller projects aren't hiring extra people. A month ago they were 817th to get work. This week they've made it down to 804.

Oh the Verizon FIOS stories I could tell. Besides my wife's attempt, I know of 4 others that ordered it and went through hell to end up not having it. Comcast has their issues but of the telecommunication providers they are probably one of the top 3. Yuh that's not saying much but there are worse choices.

I think you'd do better to call them rather than online

Based on this, you may have just gone the best route to get decent customer service!
"Known for ranking at or near the bottom of its industry in customer service surveys,
Comcast formed a team last winter of seven employees at its Philadelphia headquarters
who scour Web postings, which are public, for complaints and try to resolve them."

I had Comcast for all 3 for years in Fernandina, and no complaints at all...none. I was one of the first customers back there to have all 3 with Comcast.....Great customer service too...Maybe small town? Everyone knew everyone? No idea.....

I have had it again here, in Panama City, for almost a year and a half...My only complaint is the phone......It goes down more than I care for....Like today, again. After one whole day last weekend....? Or maybe it was the weekend before? I just know it was recent...

I can place a call once in a while....and the last one I made to Comcast and got this recorded message...

"We are aware of a Service Outage in your area. No need to stay on the line due to high volume of calls due to this outage. We will be glad to call you when Service is restored to Normal".

Internet is working fine...and the phone is plugged in the modem, so I don't get it...But then I am not very tech savvy...  and that's an understatement...

When I first read that comment, I said the exact same thing. After I read your reply, I'm sort of sorry I said that. And I'm sorry for your friends (brothers). But then again, that really isn't something you hear everyday.

I had Comcast cable and internet for just over 5 years, during which time the level of service declined (I had their platinum package that was supposed to include all channels, only whenever they added a new channel, it wasn't included, but I didn't get a break when they got rid of a channel), the cost increased and the speeds plummeted, along with the reliability. So I finally got so fed up switched to DSL through Qwest (which realistically has the same effective upload and download speed). I switched to Directv and I've never looked back. I have my dish sitting on the roof of my garage and the only outages I've suffered have been the result of things beyond Directv's control, such as a film truck parking in front of my dish. I save about $80.00 a month vs. Comcast.

I just got comcast installed at 1pm. It is now 3pm and I just called to cancel it.

I am going to keep the internet but comcast TV is HORRIBLE. I am a big HD guy, and I like my HD channels. That is why I liked Optimum, lots of HD channels. So, I just ordered Directv. Comcast had only 20 something HD channels, and a lot of those were locals and PPV type channels. Directv has over 60. For HD buffs, this is a big deal. And I am saving a lot of money by going with them and I get a HD DVR. Should have trusted my gut and done this in the first place...

Another *fun* thread dedicated to Comcast ........ viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66628

In it you'll find my Comcast story of the 6 month saga to get them to bury a "temporary cable" they strung across my lawn.

I have Comcast cable and once I was able to get them to come and install it, I had no problems with the service. Same goes with everyone else I know for their Internet. However, for those who added the phone service, everything went to hell. It seemed to screw the other stuff up. Everything just goes out. Once the phone service was taken away, it cleared up again. I'd say this happened to at least 3 people I know.

Now billing.... When I signed up, after dealing with some issues, I was absolutely, positively, told that my $40 a month rate would go forever. I knew better and asked if it the guy meant it was good for a year. He assured me it was good for as long as I kept the service. One year later, my bill jumped to $120 a month. Of course, I forgot to check my bill for 2 months since it pays automatically, so they got me. I called and nicely complained. The guy told me he'd give me the new rate for another year. My next bill? $120.

Memories!

I was telling my wife that story just a few days ago. We were out for a walk and I saw a cable strung across 2 or 3 yards and up to a house. Made me think of you. :D

If I had another option I would drop Comcast in a heartbeat. If for no other reason it is for the customer service. Whether it be in person or over the phone. It is the worst customer service I have ever had in my life.

Cable and net do go out frequently and they do not adjust bill.

I have over 40 HD channels with Comcast. Could have more but I don't need all the movie channels.
Lately I've been using the On Demand feature a lot. I'm not sure if the dishes have that.
My brother has the Dish Network HD package but I'm not sure how many channels he has. It's been raining for 2 days so I'm pretty sure his reception is going in and out right now.
I guess there are pro and cons no matter what service you get....although I've been really happy with Comcast
