The Department of Defense has released three of the identities of the five soldiers killed in the Camp Liberty shooting on Monday.

The Pentagon says one of the officers is 52-year-old Navy Commander and Doctor Charles Springle. He is a Wilmington [NC] native and a commander at Camp Lejeune.

Pfc. Michael Edward Yates Jr., 19, of Federalsburg, Md., and Dr. Matthew Houseal, of Amarillo, Texas, have also been identified. The names of the two others have not been released.

The Pentagon says a Navy commander stationed at Camp Lejeune was one of five people killed Monday, allegedly by an Army sergeant.

Before being deployed to Iraq, Commander Charles "Keith" Springle was director of the Camp Lejeune Community Counseling Center.

Sergeant John Russell is charged in the deaths of the five service members following a shooting in a stress clinic in Baghdad.

Springle, who went by his middle name Keith, attended East Carteret High School and was a psychologist.

Relatives tell WITN News that he lived in Jacksonville with his wife. They tell us Springle has a son who is a Marine and a son-in-law who is also in the military. Both had recently been through deployments to Iraq.

My deepest sympathies to their families, friends, and fellow servicemembers.

Sail on, brothers.
