U.S. Will Pay $2.6 Million to Train Chinese Prostitutes to Drink Responsibly on the Job

(CNSNews.com) -- The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will pay $2.6 million in U.S. tax dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly on the job.
Dr. Xiaoming Li, the researcher conducting the program, is director of the Prevention Research Center at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.
The grant, made last November, refers to prostitutes as "female sex workers"--or FSW--and their handlers as "gatekeepers."
"Previous studies in Asia and Africa and our own data from FSWs [female sex workers] in China suggest that the social norms and institutional policy within commercial sex venues as well as agents overseeing the FSWs (i.e., the 'gatekeepers', defined as persons who manage the establishments and/or sex workers) are potentially of great importance in influencing alcohol use and sexual behavior among establishment-based FSWs," says the NIH grant abstract submitted by Dr. Li.

Re: A stimulus program.
Not to turn this into a political p*** war....but its amazing to me that Republicans complain about Democrat spending when grants such as this were made during the previous administration. It shows that all politicians (Republicans and Democrats) spend our tax dollars foolishly.

I don't see how you can even take this story half-seriously?
CNSNews.com is just a phantom news service created from hacks left over from the last '04 GOP campaign.
Like Fox News, they claim to be "balanced", but their big stories have been of the attack brand that attempt to skewer Dems exclusively.
so... go ahead and believe in any propaganda machine that happens to use 3 letters and "news" in their title.
You'd just be another of those ONE in FIVE
but, hey... it's a free country

I've never heard of CNSNews.com but are you saying the story isn't true or do you just not approve of the source? And if it isn't true, please point us to at least one source that refutes it.Lightning Bolt wrote:I don't see how you can even take this story half-seriously?

Call me old fashioned, but I don't consider a "news source" that requests donations to be too reliable. I bet if I "donate" enough I can get any news story on there I want.LIPH wrote:I've never heard of CNSNews.com but are you saying the story isn't true or do you just not approve of the source? When I'm on my office computer I don't click on links in posts, unless it's a link to someone's photo album after a tailgate, and like I said I never heard of CNSNews.com.

Re: A stimulus program.
Here's the problem I have with CNSNews.com's handling of the story. Their story is dated May 12, 2009 which gives the appearance that this is a "breaking" story when in actuality the story "broke" back in November. It's being "reported" at this time, not because it just broke, but because it obviously fits the adgenda of "CNSNews" which is "an alternative to the liberal media, focusing on stories that are unreported, under-reported, or misreported by the mainstream press" - in outer words, IMO, it is no relibable news source but more a biased rag and journalistically on the same level as The National Enquior. The headline gives the false impression right off the bat the news is new and current. It's sensationalism and yellow journalism and I have little respect for any media source that deploys such tactics.

Yeah you have a point, but unlike Dan Rather, the story they reported was true.ph4ever wrote:
