That's the most likely explanation.
If he can't sell out the MGM once, it makes no sense to book it for a second and third night.
With two of the four shows cancelled, it does not make financial sense to go to Seattle or San Diego (unless they are opening a new Margaritaville or CIP that we have not heard about).
Been to at least a dozen Vegas show over the years and don't ever remember a lack of ticket sales being an issue. That venue has always been flush. The last time Jimmy did 3 concerts in Vegas was 2005. So if tickets were an issue for the May show- maybe it was a bit of an over-reach in this economic climate.
Whatever the reason- LandShark Stadium commitments, lackluster ticket sales, budget issues- it simply doesn't matter. Jimmy has to be fair to his fans before commits to these shows. He shouldn't be given a pass on this one just yet

I also don't remember Jimmy ever doing three Vegas gigs in a year either. So if tickets were an issue for the May show- maybe it was a bit of an over-reach in the planning department.

this year was the first in who knows how long that he announced the whole schedule in one fell swoop rather than candy-a$$ing it out in dribs and drabs expecting people to drop everything to plan around his dates at the last minute. Having done that, you're in. Short of Peets dying (again), Jane announcing she's due in Sept., or going into rehab... you're on the hook. it's not like Buffett loses money with the usually 110% of the gate.

But if the reason they're cancelled has anything to do with Landshark Stadium and the Dolphins, I wonder if people still think that's such a great business move? Promoting a crappy, ridiculously overpriced beer at the expense of alienating thousands of fans.
Miller and Coores have there name on Stadiums...those beers are on the same level....i can't use Bush because thats a Family!!!....better then having a bank that recieved money from the government like the Mets did!!

My question .....were these tickets already sold??? or did they have a on sale date????..one thing i've learned with Jimmy is until there is a on sale date...everything is rumor!!!!!

Sometimes I think Jimmy thinks his fans are nothing but walking $$$$$.
He knows wherever he plays, his shows will sell out, and, therefore, probably doesn't care WHO'S in the seats, as long as it's SOMEONE.
So if he cancels a show or two here, he knows he can make up for it with a couple of shows there.
He needs to understand that his fans aren't inanimate objects that he can turn on or off at his whim.
They love his music and his shows, and, in many cases, they need as much advance planning as possible if they desire to attend one of his concerts.
Fortunately, for me, I'm in a job where I can pretty much request a few days (or many times even a week or two) off just about any time I want to.
But there are lots of fans who aren't that lucky, and need to know several months ahead of time. Once a concert is posted, and then later cancelled, it's a huge let down, especially for rhe west coast fans, who, if they aren't willing or able to make a trek two or three time zones away, get to see Jimmy about as often as I get asked out on a date by Sandra Bullock.
Don't get me wrong-I still love Jimmy and his music, and always will.
But he really needs to understand his fans are PEOPLE and not his own personal money trees.
well said, along with Larry's earlier statement.
Personally, I was fairly baked yesterday. had a great time partying, and despite the abundance of tickets for as low as $50,
I just couldn't see myself dropping any more $$ vs. hearing him play too many songs from SYKBH.
Touring without a new album kind of jaded my outlook... that and all the Grey Goose
I enjoyed a good enough time from Fri. and all day Sat. to satisfy my Vegas urge.
Drove home this morning quickly enough to make it down to Petco Park and see Jake Peavy throw a complete game victory.
Now, THAT was a real treat!
I'm not defending anyone here, by any means, but just for the record about 70% of the songs on the setlist weren't from SYKBH. I'm just sayin.
I also think that maybe that long promised South Pacific leg may be falling into place which is why tickets for those other dates never went onsale. I agree if it was "iffy" then he should not have announced them.
As someone who finally gave up on the whole Tahiti thing and is spending her money elsewhere Jimmy --- Please don't say Manana if you don't mean it!

Like many others-we bought airfare & booked rooms and will do Vegas regardless of Jimmy being there or not. Been doing this drill for many years- creatures of habit, I guess.
The issue here is not that people won't be able to make the situation work. The issue here is simply about trust and respect. People made plans based on Jimmy's commitment to do these shows- but he had bigger fish to fry and clearly left a whole lot of fans hanging. I don't care if you're Jimmy Buffett or Joe Blow- that's a snub in my book.
Loyalty is a very fragile commodity. Jimmy needs to be careful here. Fans forgive a lot of things... but this was a big one.
I'm sorry for all who committed money based on the announced tour schedule. If they had known the dates were not good, they may have made a different decision as to how best spend their money.
I hope we all get that explanation that we've been speaking about.
It seems like a big integrity issue, and lots of business empires have declined when integrity comes into play.
The concert dates were announced and put up on the official sites (including pollstar). That's a fact. And there were no disclaimers that the dates might not come through. Lots of folks made plans -- putting deposits down on rooms (because they always fill up in the fun places like the Flamingo) and booking flights. All of a sudden the dates are gone, rumors start to fly, venues start to confirm that dates are cancelled, and Jimmy's camp is silent. I, myself, not only booked rooms in vegas and flights thereto, but I talked a bunch of folks into doing the same to join me at the concert. Boy...don't I feel like an ass now.
Either they don't know there are issues (unlikely) or the don't care. Apparently Jimmy found something better to do, and keeping his word doesn't appear to be an important thing to do. For those folks who have supported his concerts over the years, bought merch all over the place, and eat his branded food, it makes you rethink the loyalty to the brand. I'll probably buy a different beer than Landshark for my Memorial Day cookout. And next time I'm thinking whether it'd be fun to drive 90 minutes to Mohegan's M'Ville.....well, maybe I'll find something else to do.
We're disappointed also. We booked our flights and hotel already for the October 17th Vegas show. We'll still have a blast in Vegas, at least we'll still get to visit Margaritaville there. It will still be a great time with or without seeing Jimmy perform there.
booking 3 vegas dates in a year let alone as close as they did this year was insane. business in vegas this year is soooo in the toilet its ridiculous. there was no way in hell vegas could fill 3 concert dates. using even last year's experience as comparison is no comparison to how bad business is in vegas. and don't forget MGM comp'd more tickets than you can believe to their rollers, they didn't sell em.
I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

I'm bummed that these shows are cancelled as well but feel as if we're putting Jimmy in a "no-win" situation here as well.
Many people complained in the past that shows were never announced far enough in advance. Jimmy tried to address that by putting the entire year's plans out a couple of months ago.
In the concert business, many tours are cut short, rearranged, or adjusted as they move through the year and plans change.
We have not faced this problem much with Jimmy due to dates being released in phases....however, if we want dates early, we have to release that plans are subject to change.
I am just glad that Jimmy's still touring and putting on a quality show every night no matter where he appears. I'll catch what I can and appreciate the experience.
Missing October in Vegas is a bummer....but I do realize that this is Jimmy's life, his business, and his calendar. If it meshes with mine, that's great....if not, I just have to look at other plans.

I don't think the real issue is that the shows were cancelled. People understand that stuff happens. But there wasn't even an acknowledgement that the shows were pulled. They just kind of did it in the middle of the night as if we weren't going to notice. A little explanation goes a long way. As it stands, however, the fans feel like their loyalty doesn't mean squat.
The Seattle show and the Chula Vista show probably would have sold out quickly as soon as tickets officially went onsale. I'm certain a number of people, me included, we're waiting for the moment tickets went onsale. The Vegas Shows is another story and is understandable with the economy, but the other shows being canceled makes no sense at all? Of course if something else is happening and taking priority on the East Coast, then it all comes together.
