WoW! some of y'all are really serious.....

do any of you on the West coasters think that Buffett is too stupid to not know the uproar that cancelling these shows was going to bring?

He will either allow an explanation, or he won't. Very simple.

He doesn't owe any of us anything. He's a private person.

next thing, someone will be telling/suggesting what they want, or don't want him to play at his concerts....
We pretty much do tell him what we want him to play at concerts. Believe me, if it doesn't go over with the crowd he won't play it over and over again to try to slam it if it doesn't work. That's the nature of the business. It's us fans that makes it all happen. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]
Are you serious???? Do you really think he cares what "you" want him to play, and where you prefer to see him play those songs? Do you remember him playing "On the Road Again" a couple years ago to open every show and the posts that said the song sucked, please stop playing it? What about the posts this year that say Yellow submarine sucks? He played it again Thursday night. Rainy Day Women, Future Has Been Defeated......I could go on and on, but the point is, he plays what he wants to play, not what his fans say sounds good, or want to hear.
Have you ever wondered why he calls out to "the lawn people" at almost every show, but not the front row where all the hard core fans who travel across country to see him repeatedly sit???? It's because it's the casual fans that pay his bills, not the few thousand who post here, or similar sites.
It's a Jimmy Buffett Show.....not a Jimmy Buffett fan appreciation show. He plays where he wants, and what he wants, and if you want to go, pay your money just like the first time buyer. He owes you nothing. If you don't like it, don't buy a ticket.
I don't meant to call you out individually, but this whole thread is BS, and forget this east coast-west coast $hit, he doesn't play within a 4 hour drive of my state either. I'm not the only one on this site that's sick of all these threads. There are plenty of PMs getting sent around between some of the regulars who are sick of all the whining, I know I've received some. Has anyone else noticed the lack of posts this week? People are sick of this!!! They aren't posting, they're logging on, feeling the negativity from these threads and walking away from their computers without posting.
Get over it already!!!
Well, congratulations on being a "regular"!
Is that anything like a "true phan" ???

Now that I know you have veto power over the thoughts expressed on this board, I'll be sure to check with you first before I post...
Nope...a regular is just someone who posts on a regular basis, and as far as censorship, I never even remotely suggested I had any veto power, merely stated that I thought a week long pity party should be enough for those who needed to get their dissatisfaction out. I personally agree that someone from Jimmy's camp needs to give an explanation, but I'm also willing to be patient for it, as I'm willing to bet there's stuff behind the scenes going on and the final answer isn't clear yet.

BN should be for everyone, but not everyone feels like posting anymore since this wave of negative threads have taken over the board. The negativity seeps into the other threads and effects everyone, just as it did before the elections last fall. Check out the total posts of the threads lately.....it's not uncommon to see posts 6 hours old still on the first page, which normally is unheard of. What about today.......it's noon on the East Coast and the MSC has 9 posts. C'mon, it's not hard to see a lot of posters are staying away due to these threads.
All I'm asking is to let these threads die. We don't always have to agree, but do we have to be so negative?

Hope to see you at one of the GW shows....I'll buy the first beer.
Cheers and Happy Memorial day.

You're right about the Pity Party. Enough Pity, let's just Party! [smilie=party.gif] However, obviously there's still a certain amount of frustration lurking about not getting any explanation (reasonable or not) for the canceled dates we've been talking about. I don't think we're being really negative, just wondering why and asking questions? If I only had to drive 4 Hours or so to go to a show, that would be a real treat! I don't think Jimmy is going to play down by the river in Boise, Idaho anytime soon. [smilie=hrmm.gif]

You're right, c-dawg...the negativity does permeate other threads on the board...but it's not just the venting (or b**ching  ) for those affected on the west coast. I've seen the snide and nasty comments about west coasters in several other threads...so everyone needs to assume some responsibility and ownership here. It was enough to make me leave the setlist thread during the Irvine show. While I am pretty sure those comments were in no way directed at me, the fact that they were being made by people I consider friends made this west coaster uncomfortable...and sad. :-? So I just left the thread, which is probably what is happening on other threads. It will eventually die down and things will return to what we call normal, until the next hot button issue pops up. I'm disappointed with how things stand now, since I was really counting on seeing some old friends in SD, as well as FINALLY meeting Finsupinfla. :( Sure, Jimmy may indeed reschedule that date...but most likely those people will no longer be attending that show. That is the basis of my disappointment and frustration...and I would hope folks here would understand that, and be a little more sensitive. Not everyone has the $$ and flexibility to fly across country to see multiple shows and BNers year after year...so when the opportunity arises we jump on it...and we're crushed when we see it disappear. :(

I agree with you about the frustration, and I also want to apologize for the tone of my first post, I was merely as frustrated at this and the other threads as some of you are at the cancellations. For now, all I can say is be patient and it may come. I still think there is stuff going on behind the scenes we don't know about which may be preventing it. Here's a scenario....
What if Jimmy has prostate or skin cancer and is going under the knife during the time frame of the canceled shows. If he came out and said that imagine what would happen....OMG, Jimmy has cancer, this could be his last tour....$35 lawn seats are now being scalped for $500....others for thousands....see what I mean? If it is something like that, he's actually doing everyone a favor by not announcing and causing chaos for the other shows. Besides that, if it is something medical, that's private and he shouldn't be required to tell us.
I hope you all get the answers you're looking for, but till then I hope you can be patient and let these threads die and the summer partys begin. I'm off to enjoy the pool and a boatdrink, Cheers! Image

You're right, I've seen remarks directed at both coasts, and in a couple cases was not only surprised by the comment, but by who posted it.
I've lived on both coasts, and overseas, and hold no bias towards anyone. If I still lived in SD, I'd be as upset as many of you, and do feel your pain. I hope you all get answers you're looking for.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend :D

Thanks for your better understanding of the frustration. No apology needed, it's just all in the spirit of things. So, it's a beautiful weekend in Boise, Idaho and I'm going to have a boat drink on my deck, (but no pool.) and I'm going to listen to Margaritaville and think about last years concert in San Diego. Who knows maybe there will be one this year and it will all work out for everyone. Let's hope so! [smilie=superkewl.gif]

Do you have some sort of crystal ball that allows you to see what others are thinking? Maybe, just maybe people are out enjoying themselves. It is after all a holiday weekend.

Not trying to pit one coast against the other, because I'm LITERALLY in the middle, and do have friends on both sides of the continent (yeah, even in the land of fruits and nuts known as KAH-LEE-FORN-YUH), but I seem to remember a few years ago when Jimmy decided to play Fenway Park instead of Great Woods, and many on America's starboard side had collective hissy fits, then, when Radio Margaritaville's Steve Huntington told them in a not so sutle way to "GET OVER IT," they all did a freaking rain dance.

Sorry, gang, but I stand by my earlier statement when I say the people on the west coast are entitled to be p|ssed off.
Not everybody has the means to make a trek two or three time zones away for a concert.
Just as Lucy pulled the football away from Charlie Brown as he was getting ready to kick, these people have a right to be upset and feel frustrated.
Whether anyone else thinks so or not.

Tickets were actually far from sold out for this show. I was still able to buy floor tickets at the box office 10 minutes before the show (I passed on them though as there were much better deals available in the lobby). Furthermore , there were a lot of people there who really had no plans to see Buffett that day. I talked to a couple 2 rows behind me (in the 6th row) who had called a broker about tickets to a Cirque show and were sold on going to Buffett at $150 per ticket ($212 face and $1000+value in the past). There were a minimum of 3000 empty seats in the MGM and it has never been like this in the past. Even when Jimmy used to play on Memorial Day weekend, parrotheads would come out in force though and "s*** it up" despite the heat.

Nonetheless, nobody has answered the two most important questions I've posed.....

If he's cancelling due to a personal matter, do you think he's obligated to tell us? If he's tending to a health matter, a family matter, or something similar....is it really any of our business?

Also, if the cancellations were done due to something else in the works....but something that can't be announced yet....would you prefer he wait another month to make the announcement?

I really want this topic to die as well...but just don't want it to die with many people thinking "Jimmy is an a-hole for not announcing a reason". Please realize that Jimmy will make an announcement when the time is right and if it is any of our business. Until than, lets let it be.

I'll answer your questions, Dean.

I think the health/family issues is a pretty remote possibility. Wouldn't make sense that he'd have shows on either side of those October dates in either of those situations. Just MHO...but I would consider both of those to be the least likely scenarios. If they were, however...would he be obligated to tell us? Obligated...nope. But a good businessman would issue some sort of statement, if only to quell any potential rumors.

As for the second question...something else in the works, again, a simple statement would suffice until more info could be released. People have scheduled that time off work as a vacation, most don't have the flexibility to change that. If the concerts were to be rescheduled, the more lead time he gives, the better for most, and for ticket sales. I'm one of those folks who believes this Landshark deal didn't just come out of the blue, it's been in the works for awhile. So by now he should have a pretty good clue of what's going on....how much longer should he (or we) have to wait?

I also think the whole ticket sales scenario is bologna too. If one were to base the fall west coast swing simply on Spring Vegas numbers, they'd have to be a complete idjit. Everyone knows Vegas has been SLAMMED by the recession...to think that Jimmy wouldn't be at all affected by that is beyond ludicrous. If anything, I'd say a number of Jimmy's fans have been hit harder by the recession than many other fans, simply because they have a lot more to lose. As has been mentioned, Vegas is a destination concert...the vast majority have to travel to see him there. As a destination, Vegas has taken one of the biggest hits in the country, so to see lower ticket sales there shouldn't have surprised anyone, least of all Jimmy. The man ain't stupid.

At this point I'd really be surprised if the Landshark deal didn't have something to do with the cancellations. But heck, I've been surprised before, once or twice. And in the big scheme of life, I'd be happiest with that option, because I certainly don't want anything to be wrong with Jimmy or his family, nor do I want slow ticket sales in one market influencing the rest of Jimmy's options in that part of the country. If Jimmy's got a new deal, woot for him! I just want to get some sort of answer so I can move on and plan accordingly.

I'll sum it up in Reader's Digest form: No, he isn't "obligated" to tell us his "business". But he didn't get to where he is today by p!ssing on his fans, so why start now? A simple statement would certainly appease a lot of folks. Then again...the whole thing does give us a lot to drink about.

BTW...where are you living now?

first it's "Ticket sales are off, so he dropped dates." then on the opposite side, "ZOMG!!!!11!1! it could be a health issue, so ticket scalpers could make a fortune off this". It's "he's not obligated to tell us anything" and "anyone who questions the complete silence on the matter is blaspheming..."

It's been another week now, and still there is silence. It's looking like "well, if we wait it out a little longer, the calls for explanation will die off, because the folks who don't have a stake in this are getting bored with people who do expressing their opinions." I have nothing in this, other than to say that it's basically time to release at least a statement acknowledging the dates being taken down, the poor handling of that, and something as simple as "we are working on alternatives".

He's already listing new dates, albeit in Nov., but they are east coast and FL dates, and the always favourite "trip to Oz". Drawback to the last one: getting all the gear down under in less than 2 weeks after the rumoured "we're playing Le Select" show and then back for Orlando.
