There's a LOT of people on the west coast that have been screwed over by this. The bastard has lied to the PNW since 2005 about having more shows up here - just like he's lied to Australia. He announced the shows, people made plans and reservations that are non refundable. His fans are owed an explanation - even if he just says "I'm cancelling because of health issues" - they're owed SOMETHING. Right now it's as if he's saying f**** y'all you don't matter.
Thank-you I absolutely agree. I was at the last PNW show and even those before that listening to Jimmy state that he loves it out here and is plans on making more tour stops in the PNW. Now that was 4 years ago, seems to me Jimmy's been watching a bit of the WWE doing his "promos" to get what he wants, a cheap "pop" from the crowd. Like the guy doesn't get enough applause. The Seattle show was going to be the first for the Keets, gotta love it!
But like all good lemmings, I'll be at the edge of the cliff ready to jump the next time a tour is announced.

Hopefully Jimmy has not canceled his West Coast Dates. If it is true and they are canceled, let us the fans, know. I was ready, along with a group of 14 fellow Parrot Heads, to book our flights and hotels to Vegas a month ago, but a gut intuition told me to hold off till the tickets went on sale. I am glad I waited, But at the same time we would have gone to the show Last week in Vegas if we knew there would be no Fall shows. This was the only show that we could make this year. Forget Swine Flu, I've got Buffett Depression. I hear that Vegas was not sold out, not a surprise in this economic depression we're in.

Maybe dropping ticket prices would help sell more seats, even NASCAR is having trouble with poor ticket sales this year, everyone is holding onto their money. I live in Toronto and cannot make it to the just announced show as I will be out of town

. I guess this part of the tour will be called Winterzcool as there wont be any shorts at this show, usually flurries that time of year. To anyone planning on going to the show, don't plan tailgating as there are only a few small parking lots around the arena, and most of the parking is underground. Toronto's finest will also be there to make sure no one has fun. It will still be a great show even without the tailgating. I tell all my Friends that a Jmmy Buffett show is not a Concert, but an Event!!!!!! So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Don't cancel the Vegas shows, it is the only cure for my Buffett Depression

I was at that last Portland show (good times!) Especially the Doubletree Pre-Party.
He did say at the concert he was builidng a boat in the State and would be back more often.
Maybe he was not happy with his boat.
You would think in 4 years he would make one visit though.
Beers up!

I went away for 3 days and thought this thread would disappear. I CANNOT believe it is still in full force.
I, for one, could care less which venues he plays. I will go to whichever ones I like.
There is only one show per year within a 40 minute drive from my house.
EVERY other venue requires airfare. Why all the bitching and complaining?
You either want to see Jimmy or you don't. Travel or don't travel...who gives a flying f*#%?
No artist plays in everyone's backyard.
Jimmy gives us MANY options to see him every year...and a free station to listen to every one...
and only for a limited time and there will be no more.

I think you're missing the boat on this one! Has nothing to do with traveling, some of us like me have to travel no matter where he plays. A 40 minute drive to at least one show a year would be an extreme luxury! I do think most of us have a legit reason to wonder why? So please give us a break, and let us just vent as much as we want until enough is enough and maybe we have a few answers.

Doesn't everyone go to the venues they like? Or at least to the ones that they can afford? How many people go out of their way to pay money far in advance to go somewhere they don't like?
However also while agreeing there
should be an explanation provided, but not mandatory or required.
Didn't Jimmy Buffett say something a while back about "parrotheads needed to get a life.", or words to that effect?
Perhaps this is his way of showing it. Maybe not.
There are no free rides in this carnival world. Maybe he is saying that again too.
Jimmy Buffett is a business man first and formost. REMEMBER THAT!!! Like any good business person, business comes first.
What did Jimmy Buffett say about, it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission?
Are people hurt? Definitely! However, just like anyone else wanting to boycott Jimmy Buffett for whatever reason, there are far too many people that will gladly take the vacant seat, for such to be effective anywhere. He may not get your nickel or dollar, but he will get it from somebody else.
Enjoy the Jimmy Buffett "ride" while it lasts. Don't forget your previous Jimmy Buffett "rides". You paid for them. You got your moneys worth. What else does Jimmy Buffett owe any of us? I have as of yet to see anything else promised or owed, on any ticket or tshirt, or anything else I purchased, that says Jimmy Buffett owes me or any of us, or must do anything.
Do people have a right to be pi$$ed for the cancelation with no explanation? Of course they do. They also have their own lives and families to deal with.
There are more important things in life to be concerned with, than a concert being canceled.

I think this thread is so pathetic!
If the moderators here at BN were in any way non-partial about the so-called west coast dates and the people that started this thread, then this thread would have gotten locked up a long time ago!
Give it up people!

"Wonder why" a show was canceled; fair enough. I wonder, too.
"Owed an explanation?" No, I don't believe we're "owed"... Maybe if tickets had gone on sale, but they didn't. A hard new lesson - don't shell out money for plane fare until tickets are on sale - and a bitter disappointment for the canceled cities. But "owed"? IMHO, no.

EXACTLY!!!
How many people actually spent and lost money on this? How much did they actually lose? They can still go on vacation and make the best of the situation without depending on Jimmy Buffett.
Jimmy Buffett has his own life and business and obligations. Just as the rest of us do. After all, he is human, just like the rest of us. He does what he does and has to do, just as the rest of us do. WITHOUT any mandatory explanation to, or owing anyone such explanation.
If he doesn't provide one, then so be it. If he does eventually provide one, then so be it and all well and good.
Life will still go on no matter what Jimmy Buffett does, one way or the other.

The thread has broken no rules and does not need to be locked. Maybe a few individual post need t be deleted ...but the thread does NOT need to be locked.

While it's great for you that you have this kind of flexibility and the cash to make it happen, many(I'd say most) people here don't. They have to pick one thing to spend their money and vacation time on and and plan it in advance. Some people counted on something that was announced and planned for it accordingly probably using it as the centerpoint for their vacation. I agree with the point that until tickets go on sale you probably shouldn't count on it and I also agree that he doesn't OWE anyone anything but a good time when you purchase a ticket. But I also get that folks who have to ask for time off well in advance and have to buy plane tickets in advance for economy's sake (which are not refundable unless you pay through the nose for them in the first place) are upset that they aren't going to see Jimmy on that vacation.
But I do think this has been talked to death and it's not going to change one single thing. To have the idea that Jimmy is even aware or really cares about what goes on here is crazy.
Enough already.

Good points, Scarlett. It's probably time for all of us to step back and take a deep breath.
It seems there are 3 groups running around in our pages of dialogue. I've lived out west, in the south, in the southeast and now up in the northeast. I've found good folks in all those places. I don't know that the shows that were pulled were a slight to the folks out west, as much as those shows just being the ones that were affected by whatever it was that affected the schedule. It always does hurt being the one who is caught in the cross-hairs.
For those of us who were disappointed, angered, frustrated, etc., over the disappearance of the shows, for whatever reason (plane tix, scheduled vacation, made plans with friends, etc.), its probably good to recognize that some folks just aren't going to get that. Re-casting the argument in different ways probably doesn't help convince anyone, as they've already made up their minds. It may be best to simply scratch our heads, wonder why they don't get it, and not respond when they don't get it.
For those of us who think that the folks who are upset are overreacting, it may be best to recognize that folks are feeling injured are going to feel that way. Telling folks that they have no right to feel what they feel usually doesn't make them change their minds. It might be time to scratch our heads, and simply say "sorry you're disappointed, and while I don't understand it, I hope you feel better about the situation soon."
For those of us who would like this thread to go away, it may be best to recognize that throwing gasoline on a fire has never been a really great way of getting the fire to go our. Putting forth something vitriolic and not expecting a reaction is pretty unrealistic. Not saying anything may be the best course of action to let the fire burn out.
On a brighter note, I got to go out in the Atlantic this weekend to see whales in their natural world. Quite awesome creatures. Did you know that pollution gathers in the whale's blubber, so that many whales would actually qualify as a toxic waste dump? Says a lot about what we're doing to our world.
