Not happy about the canceled West Coast Dates!

Jimmy canceled four dates on the West Coast that were previously announced on Margaritaville.com, and planned on by a lot of us Parrotheads that support the concerts. Not a good choice! Kind of upset here for sure! Obviously Seattle, San Diego, and Las Vegas don't amount to much anymore. Maybe Jimmy has gotten too big to remember the real fans that buy products and go to concerts? Sounds like Landshark Stadium and Dolphin Fans are more important now! Might be a major downfall to cancel dates people planned based on the original Tour Schedule. I know it hurt us tremendously and I'm sure a lot of other people planning vacations around the Tour Schedule. We planned our once a year vacation around the concert in San Diego, and now that's not going to happen. It's a bummer! Can anybody say anything to make me feel more positive about this?

he changed his mind due to other commitments. tho, you are right that a bit more news about alternate dates would be good. but I only suggest that because I am not a big fan of koolaide.

I suggest you still go to San Diego and have a great time anyway!

We planned a vacation to Hawaii this year based on a rumor of when Jimmy might be there. We knew we were taking a chance and decided to go for it and just enjoy Hawaii if Jimmy didn't show. We got lucky...but if it hadn't happened there's no way I'd have let it ruin our vacation.

We took a vacation to San Diego a few years back and had a ball...there are tons of things to do there even if Jimmy isn't there...

Trust me...
Life and laughter goes on in SD with our without Jimmy!

You just take the party with you... over to Secret's new pool patio/party central!

You're right, they should still go & have a great time!

BUT, they didn't base their trip on a rumor, it was an official announcement, & by Jimmy himself, if I remember correctly. (wasn't it a part of the videos with the whole google earth thing?) I've always admired Jimmy as an artist AND as a business person. Dropping the October dates with no explanation was a bad business move. And very inconsiderate.

Couldn't tell you about the show... I crashed and burned!

..but LMS and the pre-show party at M'ville looked like only half (if not 1/3) of what they had been :-?

Don't give up hope. The San Diego show is still listed on the venue's website and on Pollstar.com

If it doesn't happen, San Diego is still a great destination even without a JB concert. There's plenty of great music in the area, Gary Seiler plays every week.

If we go to San Diego and the concert goes on as originally announced, we will have to quit sailing early on Thursday to tailgate.

Glad you had a good time, tho! :)

We love Jimmy- and will always try to find a way to give him the benefit of the doubt. But this was pretty cold.

Like many others-we bought airfare & booked rooms and will do Vegas regardless of Jimmy being there or not. Been doing this drill for many years- creatures of habit, I guess.

The issue here is not that people won't be able to make the situation work. The issue here is simply about trust and respect. People made plans based on Jimmy's commitment to do these shows- but he had bigger fish to fry and clearly left a whole lot of fans hanging. I don't care if you're Jimmy Buffett or Joe Blow- that's a snub in my book.

Loyalty is a very fragile commodity. Jimmy needs to be careful here. Fans forgive a lot of things... but this was a big one.

If these shows are cancelled it has no effect on me because I wasn't planning on going to any of them anyway. But if the reason they're cancelled has anything to do with Landshark Stadium and the Dolphins, I wonder if people still think that's such a great business move? Promoting a crappy, ridiculously overpriced beer at the expense of alienating thousands of fans.

I was planning on going to the Vegas Show on the first weekend... I'll probably still go out to Vegas anyway... Fortunately I didn't book my flight yet so I can probably still cancel....

I understand your frustration.
Sometimes I think Jimmy thinks his fans are nothing but walking $$$$$.
He knows wherever he plays, his shows will sell out, and, therefore, probably doesn't care WHO'S in the seats, as long as it's SOMEONE.
So if he cancels a show or two here, he knows he can make up for it with a couple of shows there.
He needs to understand that his fans aren't inanimate objects that he can turn on or off at his whim.
They love his music and his shows, and, in many cases, they need as much advance planning as possible if they desire to attend one of his concerts.
Fortunately, for me, I'm in a job where I can pretty much request a few days (or many times even a week or two) off just about any time I want to.
But there are lots of fans who aren't that lucky, and need to know several months ahead of time. Once a concert is posted, and then later cancelled, it's a huge let down, especially for rhe west coast fans, who, if they aren't willing or able to make a trek two or three time zones away, get to see Jimmy about as often as I get asked out on a date by Sandra Bullock.

Don't get me wrong-I still love Jimmy and his music, and always will.
But he really needs to understand his fans are PEOPLE and not his own personal money trees.

with no explanation for why the shows were cancelled, me thinks there was a significant issue with poor ticket sales.

That's the most likely explanation.

If he can't sell out the MGM once, it makes no sense to book it for a second and third night.

With two of the four shows cancelled, it does not make financial sense to go to Seattle or San Diego (unless they are opening a new Margaritaville or CIP that we have not heard about).

Tickets for the Seattle show hadn't happened as of yet. The last time he was in the PNW was Portland in 2005 when he told the crowd he'd be back up here more often. That's about all I will say right now.

well said, along with Larry's earlier statement.

Personally, I was fairly baked yesterday. had a great time partying, and despite the abundance of tickets for as low as $50,
I just couldn't see myself dropping any more $$ vs. hearing him play too many songs from SYKBH.
Touring without a new album kind of jaded my outlook... that and all the Grey Goose

I enjoyed a good enough time from Fri. and all day Sat. to satisfy my Vegas urge.
Drove home this morning quickly enough to make it down to Petco Park and see Jake Peavy throw a complete game victory.

Now, THAT was a real treat!

The seats looked pretty filled to me in Frisco. (and many from BN were there to see for themselves :D ). Also, once again this year, I read threads about the difficulties people had in purchasing tickets to various shows. Some people were even shut out. So... I'm confused. Where does the talk of poor ticket sales comes from....the May 16 Vegas show?

Even if sales were down for the Vegas show, why would that necessitate canceling all October shows?

The last scheduled concert is September 5. The Dolphins first game, a home game, is September 21. [smilie=umm.gif]
It seems to me that the stadium deal was more important than the scheduled dates in October.
