I hate to say it...but most his fan base is east coast...and most of your population is in the Northeast....just in New England alone there are 10-11 Parrothead clubs.
There's a bunch of people who are fans but aren't members of parrothead clubs. So just screw the west coast fans? West coast fans don't matter? That's a rather crappy attitude if you ask me. Maybe if he wouldn't lie so damn much to his west coast fans he'd have more.
Although I'm not officially on a coast, I'm closer to west coast than the east coast (I'm in New Mexico). However, I don't think Jimmy has screwed us at all.

We've had chances to attend shows already (Phoenix and Vegas) and still have other opportunities this week (Concord and Irvine). Tickets have been easy to obtain for all shows and anyone on the west coast (or vicinity) could have gone to all four.

Tickets are always tougher to obtain on the east coast and parrotheads in that region often struggle to find tickets to one show (and four is a near impossibility).

I'm not sure if these cancellations are to accomodate a Landshark Stadium show or not.....but I'm sure they would have been cancelled to accomodate shows somewhere that tickets sell no matter if the stadium deal was done or not.

Complaining isn't going to change anything....if anything, it will just make Jimmy more complacent to venture out west again anytime soon (or make him say "this just ain't worth it anymore...its time to retire")

Accept the fact that these dates are history. If you want to see another show, start making plans to go elsewhere (I am) and just enjoy the trip. If you can't deal with possible cancellations or revisions to concerts plans, than maybe its time just to quit going to concerts.

Most of his fans are on the East Coast?

Where do you get your data from?
Can I see it?

More fan clubs doesn't = more fans to my mind.
I've been a fan of Jimmy's since the late 70's and do not belong to any club.

Tickets are always tougher to find on the East Coast?
Then explain how we've managed to get them for Nissan every year we want them.

Look guys I'm trying to make this as simple as I know how.

All I want is for Jimmy or his Management team to say they canceled these shows for a reason. Any reasonable reason will do. They don't even really have to apologize although that would be nice. Then I will shut up and resume my regular "Jimmy is the greatest" posting.

The fact that I have been jumped on by people I thought were my friends however isn't going to be so easily washed away. If one of my friends goes off on a rant that I don't agree with you won't catch telling him or her to shut up and go away. You will see me trying my hardest to help them come to some kind of an understanding of what's going on.

Anyone here try to help me understand why the concerts were canceled? No.

Perhaps you can afford to spend several thousands to go to a show? I know I can and I have. But there's the people that can't afford to spend thousands to travel to a show. Those people don't matter.

I think you've pretty well hit the nail on the head. I can honestly say that in my years of going to concerts of all sorts of music genre's, I have definitely had concerts cancelled, and some even after the tickets were bought and paid for (and some back when we paid cash for tickets and had to go to an outlet to get a refund). I cannot once remember an artist who had announced firm dates pulling the dates back without ever offering some kind of explanation. Maybe I'm old and forgetful, but I don't remember it.

I think we have to accept that we won't get an explanation (much less an "I'm sorry we disappointed you guys), take a deep breath, and move on with it. I don't like it, and I really thought Jimmy had an organization with a bit more integrity than that, but I suppose I was wrong.

I don't know that there are more PH's in the east than the west. It sure seems like it at times, but it may just be the denser population centers on the eastern seaboard than west of the big river.

I still think we should all gather in Vegas and play CDs for our own concert.

I think it is fair to say that most people on this site don't want any shows cancelled. There are a lot of people on this site that don't travel and a lot of people who meet here for the setlist threads and have a great time doing it. If shows are cancelled, then we all lose out.

Tell me this, since when is a performer obligated to have shows for people that can't afford to go to them?
If you can't afford the trip, listen on Radio Margaritaville. Jimmy has established this station and the live concerts for free for everyone that can't go and can therefore listen at home, work, etc.

And then when he does that, if for some reason a show isn't broadcast, people whine and complain about that. And then if there isn't a CD or DVD, people whine and complain about that. And then if there is a DVD, and it is released in an untimely manner, people whine and complain about that.

I propose a new FORUM: Whining and Complaining. This could be a forum where everyone in a nasty mood could gather and moan and complain about everything that irks them on a daily basis. And those of us who come to this FAN website to have nice conversations could go about our happy little business.

It is sort of funny that someone who has so many fun and positive and carefree songs has so many uptight fans.

As fans and the people that got him where he is today the respectable thing to do would be offer the fan base any type of explanation. Even if it's I can make more money by doing the dolphin deal instead of the last leg of the tour that I announced via google earth and youtube. That would be better than just dropping the shows.

Being a fan doesn't mean liking and accepting everything a performer does without question. I've been a fan for over 30 years and I've been to more than 100 concerts. That doesn't mean I just s*** it up and go along with everything Jimmy does. If I disagree with something and want to voice my opinion, I do that, just as everyone else can and should do. I propose if anyone who thinks Jimmy and everything he does is great doesn't like that, they skip over those threads and continue to live in their own little world where everything is perfect and nothing negative ever happens.

I don't know a great number of people who take being treated like they don't matter particularly well. If your grocery store does it, you eventually stop going there. If your spouse does it, you eventually walk out the door. If your dog does it...oh, wait...dogs don't do that. Cats do. Not dogs.

It's not that people are necessarily uptight. Some have plunked down some cash to make plans to one of the now-mythical shows (as a great deal of effort seems to be going into making it seem like the shows never were planned in the first place). Those folks don't expect anyone to reimburse them, but they would like someone to acknowledge their commitment to the artist and the music and offer some kind of reasonable explanation, rather than trying to sweep it away. I, personally, don't think that's asking a lot of someone who's made a boatload of cash off of those people. Maybe I'm just unreasonable myself.

I don't think most people are being unreasonable and I don't this it is out of the question to be upset and/or angry. There are just a few people here that are beating this to death and it gets a little old. Why are there 45 threads on this topic?

These concerts are 5 months out...not in a month or two. People who are planning this far in advance should book REFUNDABLE rooms and airfare. You never know what may happen in 5 months.

Yet you choose to participate in the threads where it's getting a little old? Why's that? Have you ever compared the prices of REFUNDABLE airfare vs non refundable? There's a big difference in cost. I also don't think that "the concert I had planned on attending was cancelled" is a viable excuse for flight insurance either. I've also heard of some hotels in show areas not allowing for refundable rooms - not to mention raising their prices when they realize there's a Buffett show in the area.

Who's beating it to death? I don't see 45 threads on this topic, there are a few on different aspects of it however I started only one.

Can you you just for one freaking minute forget the money aspect of this and focus on what is the true bottom line issue? Which is the cancellation of concerts without any regard for the fans. No reasons no nothing.

Its also bad business to cause grief for a performer over cancelled performances....especially one that could retire at anytime. Lets keep touring fun for the man and let him play wherever he wants to and whenever he wants to. The minute it stops being fun, Jimmy is likely to call it quits. When it happens though, I'm sure they'll be people on here complaining that retirement is no way to treat his fans.

For anyone whos so unhappy with events, its ok to quit being a fan. I've followed other artists, sports teams, etc. in that past that disappointed me at one point in time. I didn't let it bother me though and just moved on. Just be prepared, other artists cancel shows too and you're bound to be disappointed again in the future.

take this advice from someone with a bit more experience and reputation for it, or don't. The statement in red might not have been phrased quite the way you wanted for a result you want. Whining and complaining to one person is voicing a concern to someone else. Thank you for using a pejorative to denigrate those opinions that don't coincide with your own.

All that most people who are "complaining" are trying to say, is that if these dates were scheduled and then all of a sudden canceled, an explanation would be nice. I dont think anyone is seriously asking for their hotel/flight money back, although if I were on the hook for 2 flights now and the show was cancelled I would also be p***. Jimmy and his representatives should know that many people travely from out of town, especially for a Vegas show, and at least owe the people who already made plans an explanation.

No one is saying that he shouldnt be allowed to cancel a show, or that it never happens with any other performers, or anything like that. Just an explanation would be appreciated by all of his fans.
