What happened to the West Coast could happen to you too.
Let him know it's just not right!!!
You seriously need to get over yourself. Come out my way and I will by you a shot. Chill out. Its just business. Just be glad he is still doing it. I am.
I'll be more then happy to Chill out. I understand it's business, however I happen to think it's bad business to disrespect your fans.
Its also bad business to cause grief for a performer over cancelled performances....especially one that could retire at anytime. Lets keep touring fun for the man and let him play wherever he wants to and whenever he wants to. The minute it stops being fun, Jimmy is likely to call it quits. When it happens though, I'm sure they'll be people on here complaining that retirement is no way to treat his fans.
For anyone whos so unhappy with events, its ok to quit being a fan. I've followed other artists, sports teams, etc. in that past that disappointed me at one point in time. I didn't let it bother me though and just moved on. Just be prepared, other artists cancel shows too and you're bound to be disappointed again in the future.
Oh please. If the man had issued a simple statement at the time of cancellation this would not be going on. The majority of other performers I've seen cancel shows and even held tickets to cancelled shows have at least had the respect and courtesy to offer some kind of explanation. Using your analagy I guess it would be ok with you to cancel a show right before he was about to hit the stage just because he didn't feel like playing and everyone should be ok with that as well. Jesus Christ the man wouldn't be where he is today if it wasn't for his fans.

As the thread starter, I was just asking when there might be a Landshark Stadium show. We too had made plans to attend the October 17th show in Vegas. We had invited friends who had never seen Jimmy before to join us on the trip. We had done a lot of research on flights, hotels and transportation since we are coming from Florida. We had even skipped the Tampa and Atlanta shows for the chance to see the Reefers in Vegas. So like many others our plans are down the tube. We were all dissapointed. Even the friends that we had invited didn't talk to us for a few days after we gave them the bad news. Fortunately we had not invested in airfare or hotel reservations. Had we done so, we have two words of advice....travel insurance.
So now we are down to Plan B. We are now in a holding pattern, waiting to find out more information. But we aren't p***ed. We aren't going to boycott anything. We are going to breathe in, breathe out and move on.
So back to our original issue....when will there be a Landshark Stadium show? We want to go have some phun with phriends and sing along with everyone else.

Jimmy and his representatives should know that many people travely from out of town, especially for a Vegas show, and at least owe the people who already made plans an explanation.
No one is saying that he shouldnt be allowed to cancel a show, or that it never happens with any other performers, or anything like that. Just an explanation would be appreciated by all of his fans.
careful there.. you're comin' mighty close to whinin' and complainin' yourself...

As far as I am concerned, he could have taken this year off. I probably wont be able to get to any shows anyway, since I have a keet due in about 2 weeks. And sadly Mrs Labatt wont let me go to a show without her. That is what I get for turing my wife from someone who made fun of me for wearing tropical clothing to a concert, to someone who is wearing a semi-tropical outfit right beside me.......
Although, I hope he doesnt cancel the MSG show in November, that might be my one chance this year. If he cancels that, that you are right I will be the one whining and complaining.

If you can't afford the trip, listen on Radio Margaritaville. Jimmy has established this station and the live concerts for free for everyone that can't go and can therefore listen at home, work, etc.
And then when he does that, if for some reason a show isn't broadcast, people whine and complain about that. And then if there isn't a CD or DVD, people whine and complain about that. And then if there is a DVD, and it is released in an untimely manner, people whine and complain about that.

2nd best.
I don't believe you did anything wrong by suggesting this topic. In fact... Florida state also has a bye week the weekend of the U and Fins bye week... which means its a PERFECT weekend for a concert in the state of florida. Half of the teams in the state will not be having fans travel to their stadiums and won't be traveling out of state for games either. it's not the weekend of florida/georgia either. A bunch of floridians looking for something to do in the middle of october... perfect.
And for those of you who think it's silly that this could be planned around football games, you don't know how seriously floridians take their football.
I am sorry for the west coast people... but we get that you are mad... I also had outside plans of going to vegas mostly because it was a bye week and and excellent week to get out of town. Things happen and short of what you have explained to us you want him to do there is nothing any of us can do for you except to say it sucks and come join the party by us. Honestly, we are all upset with something jimmy has done lately myself included. But please don't direct that anger towards your fellow parrotheads.
I hope the west coast dates reappear, this will put a damper on my excitement over Landshark Stadium and doing fins during my beloved dolphin home games.

Now we have a Plan C! Presuming there is going to be a Miami show at the Landshark Stadium in October, we can drive to Orlando as well and see the Reefers on November 14th. Plus the added bonus of seeing both of our 'keets who live in "O"town as well. Thank you to Jimmy and crew for adding additional Florida dates in a year when we can use a little phun in our lives. We will be waiting anxiously for the ticket sale dates!

FYI....i was talking with a major Dolphins fan today who brought up some good points. I really doubt that a Buffett show happens in this Stadium during October. Landshark Stadium is also currently home to the Florida Marlins and these weekends would have to be left open for potential playoff games (even though they are currently 5.5 games out of first).
Additionally, there has always been gripes about the dirt infield during football stadium. A show could not be done without covering the field and they are not likely to do this right after installing new grass (as the cover would likely kill it)
I know that a concert (or two) is part of this deal....but I'm guessing you won't see a show here until next spring.

If the stadium deal is for one year and the Landshark name comes down when the Dolphins' season ends, what's the point of doing a concert at "Landshark Stadium" next spring? It won't be Landshark Stadium anymore by then.

If the stadium deal is for one year and the Landshark name comes down when the Dolphins' season ends, what's the point of doing a concert at "Landshark Stadium" next spring? It won't be Landshark Stadium anymore by then.
I believe they have only said that it can't be called Landshark Stadium for the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl (thats the NFL setting that agenda). It could always return to that name for a spring show....still allowing another sponsor to assume the title before the Dolphins 2010 season.
Furthermore, the concert portion of the contract is just to cover the revenue for sponsorship. This could technically be done in a stadium of any name and make the same revenue for Mr. Ross.
I just don't think its feasible to an October date at the stadium at all. I could be wrong, but field availability and conditions just likely wouldn't allow it.

OK pholks, I have not looked through all the posts on this string but I have not seen this addressed, so I feel compelled to do so...
Let's look at the Fenway (2004) and Wrigley (2005) shows. They were in September. Both the Red Sox and Cubs still had home games to play and I'm sure you'll recall the Red Sox won the World Series that year.
They set up a stage, had two concerts and dismantled the whole thing all in a matter of let's say a week.
And don't forget the CBP shows in Philadelphia and the Gillette Stadium show as well. Those were also done during baseball and football season.
There is no reason a crew can't do the same thing in Miami and not harm the playing surface.
Finally, think about this: Kenny Chesney's tour will be over before October, so wouldn't that be a MEGA TICKET, Chesney and Buffett in Miami. My money is on the Marlins not making the playoffs and a LAND SHARK Stadium show OCTOBER 17th.

Fenway and Wrigley never had to worry about planting grass on the field during the same timetable though. At Landshark Stadium, grass will be planted over the diamond as soon as baseball season is over (football players hate the dirt surface). I don't think it would be feasible to cover this so quickly after sod is installed (although I'm not a greenskeeper and don't even play one on TV).
Also, even if this potential problem didn't exist, there is no way this show could be announced until the Marlins are officially eliminated from the playoffs (especially after the Denver Nuggets fiasco with the WWE). With them being only 5 games out at this time, that likely wouldn't happen til about a month left in the season. Would this be enough time to sell 60,000+ tix? I doubt it.

Hello All. I live in Miami and preserving the grass at that time of year is not a problem. Plant sod on Sunday morning and by Tuesday you'll need to cut it. Remember, Hurricane season doesn't end until October 31st (unofficially) and sometime in November (officially). Therefore it will still be raining every afternoon just like today.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 17-Oct date!
