St Maarten question.....updated with pics from trip!

Post by PHnSC »

I am going to St. Maarten for a week vacation at the beginning of June! Looking for suggestions on places to visit while there, and things to look out for. Any help would be appreciated.

The Sunset Beach bar is pretty cool...you can watch the planes fly right over head! :o

http://www.stmartin.com/detail.html?bid=139

on Orient Beach there is a really cool bar owned by people from New Jersey...NY/NJ signs all over the bar.

http://www.sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten- ... ntBay.html

you can buy Rum Jumbie at the stand on the cruise ship dock...they lat you have free samples or here...http://www.sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten- ... tml#Cigars

For true expertise on St. Maarten you need to visit the SXM pages over at TTOL (Travel Talk On Line).

http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/ ... d=stmartin

You'll find info from folks who have been going there for years, as well as people who live there. Read some trip reports to see what a typical trip to SXM is all about.

I'm jealous! Enjoy your trip!

A side trip to St. Bart's would not be out of line. You can take a puddle jumper (pay attention during your descent) or ride the ferry (do you get seasick?). SBH has a different vibe than SXM, small-town-ish (if your small town boasts celebs and super-models). Make sure you visit LeSelect near the harbor in Gustavia. (Everything is near the harbor in Gustavia.) Walk the beach in St Jean, watch the planes come in over the hilltop. Lorient has a nice beach that is popular with families, and you can see the remains of Autour du Rocher on the hillside.

If the seas are rough, DO NOT take the Cat boat ride over to St. Barts. :-? :-?

Make sure you order a drink somewhere made of this stuff. YUM!!!

We always have enjoyed the Bikini Beach Bar on Orient Beach. Great food and a fun atmosphere:

A must see for any Parrothead is Last Mango in Paradise located at Bobby's Marina near the cruise ship pier. They don't have a web site, but the place is packed with great hats, t-shirts and other PH gear.

Have phun!

Orient Bay/beach is nice...not sure if there is still a nude section...DO NOT GO - if you go be prepared to see thing that will BURN YOUR EYES!!!

There is the Butterfly or something on the French side that is really cool.

I loved it there - Have a great time!!!

This may be a bit too late, just saw this thread.

What Penny said...............YOU MUST HAVE A GUAVABERRY COLODA!!!!!!
Boolechanz is a great place to buy jewelry.

St Maarten is our favorite island. We have stayed there a week and been there 5 times on a ship.
Last trip was about 4 months ago.
I bought a diamond palm tree pendant for my chain and it is a constant reminder of how much we love it there.
Only other advice is to take me with you!
ENJOY!
