Okay time for a silly question-the doors open at 7 which means the concert must start about 8-any bets as to how long it will be? I can't remember how long the paris concert was last year. Am trying to figure out if we would be able to make the last train home (11pm) or if we will have to drive down from leicester.

Think the show usually lasts around 2 hours or maybe 2.1/2 hours. Just depends which station your train comes into. If it is St Pancras or King's Cross you could catch the tube from Shepherds Bush Market (Hammersmith & City line) direct to King's Cross. If you are lucky and cross your fingers you should make it. You will miss all the fun though after the show with all the Parrot Heads if you rush to get your train. We are staying in London from Friday to Monday and booked in at a hotel near Kings Cross. Our fare for the bus and Stagecoach train was only £1 each way but found that the hotels are expensive in London. It has taken days of looking at bad reports of hotels on Trip Advisor to find one with all good reviews.

thanks guys! sounds like we will probably be driving down, would love to stay over but dh has to work on monday morning and can't get anyone to cover for him.

Can't wait to catch up with everyone we met in paris last year. Do you think there will be much of a tailgate party while we wait in line? Can't imagine london's finest being as tolerant as the french gendarmes last year.

I have the T shirt design but Buffett is spelt with only one T again so having to have redone. Unfortunately guy is away for a week not a problem for the Paris concert but tight for London. Any one who thinks they can alter it contact me please.

What time are you planning to get to London/the venue?

Are you travelling up on the train?

or maybe we could just add the 2nd 'T' with a brush and dye making it look like its been added on after, seeing as most media/sites etc only use 1 'T'

Hey guys - I half jokingly said "we could go to london" when we were trying to figure out what to do with our holiday weekend over here in the states. Then we looked at loads on Delta (fiance's a pilot for them, so flights are free as long as there are seats). Looks like it's doable, but we're not quite ready to pull the trigger on it yet. So hoping tix are still available when we are!

BUT, never been to london, and pretty clueless as to areas. Where would we want to stay? Any affordableish but comfortable options? Or at least regions to search in on hotwire/kayak/etc.?

thanks! and hope to get over there!!!

Tripadvisor is always a good place to start:

The Kensington/Chelsea area would be a suitable place to stay and handy for the show also.

thanks, westway. Delta's layover hotel is the Millennium Gloucester, which says it's in/near kensington, so that might be a good spot if their delta rate is good. We'll probably stick around most of the week, too, might as well. I work for a newspaper and I'm anticipating another five furlough days starting 1 Jul - so it's free vacation.

It's funny - i'm the queen of lodging searches whenever we travel, and usually end up making pretty good choices, but London's so big, I tried some research yesterday, got overwhelmed and figured that someone on BN might be able to point me in the right direction.

You are right to say London covers a large area - the last thing you want on a short break is to be spending all your time on the tube. I always tell people to look at the postcode. Anything that is W 1, SW1 is in a good area. Also worth trying is the area around Westminster - there are hotels by the London Eye/river side of Waterloo that have good offers. Personally I use http://www.lastminute.com for some good deals.

We have booked the Hilton Kensington for the night of the show - good deal and 6 minutes walk to the Shepherds Bush Empire.

The Millenium Gloucester is not a bad location but be prepared to do some walking - if the weather is hot the tube can be h*ll :-?
