Margaritaville Canada
"Look for a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe to open in west-end Edmonton next year, full of boats and planes and the Key West atmosphere so celebrated in Jimmy's tunes. It's a happening chain stateside."

My brother lives in Edmonton. Hopefully this will help him shop for me on my birthday.
Dumb and drunk as I was, you know I would do it all again.

Re: Margaritaville Canada
Funny and valid point, but I actually think the opposite for a marketing tactic. I think M'villes would do better in the cold, wintery North than in the tropical island settings. It would give people who have to deal with winter a place to "get away", at least mentally, for those rappy 4-6 months. There is relatively new bar in Chicago that does pretty well all winter long. They have a tropical, island theme going all year. It is full of palm trees, has bags set up, and "beach" sand floor in half the bar. It gets packed in the winter time and does ok in the summer.RinglingRingling wrote:because when I think warm tropical breezes and island vistas.. my mind goes to Edmondton right off..Another Jimmy wrote:"Look for a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe to open in west-end Edmonton next year, full of boats and planes and the Key West atmosphere so celebrated in Jimmy's tunes. In my case, I just take time off each year and go on a couple vacations to my favorite tropical destinations. My thinking is if I am getting out of the Midwest for a week or two, I don't want to spend a bunch of time at a M'Ville. If there is one in the area I usually stop in for 10 minutes or so to check it out, but I would rather spend my time and money getting to know the local hot spots and people; not giving JB even more of my money for a mediocre experience. He gets enough of my money through other means.
I will have to say though that one of my favorite memories was at the M'Ville in Negril, Jamaica. That place is particulalry cool and has a strong Jamaican vibe to it. I watched a Bears/Packers game in 87 degree weather, while watching my counterparts freeze in 10 degree, snowy weather. It was a good time.

Re: Margaritaville Canada
Hey, Jimmy Buffett:
Welcome to Canada!
Thinking of all the marketing opportunities now open to you here in the Great White North -- land of your forefathers:
- Anti-freeze. And not the drinkable variety, tailgaters. Sorry.
- Margaritaville ice scrapers, not ice buckets. For those of us stuck in our cars in frozen harbours come January.
- The always fetching grass skirt lined with leg warmers.
- Freezer with 6 holes stopped working? No problem. There's always the back deck.
- Key West North tuques and ear muffs. Nuff said.
- Flip-flops & thick socks combo. More fetching.
- Snow tire swings
Look for many of the above Nov. 19 at the ACC in downtown T.O.
Will Jimmy don a Leafs' jersey for the show? Gotta wear long sleeves, Bubba.

I have an aunt, uncle, & cousin in Grande Prarie, AB.
I guess that's as good of a reason as any to make a pilgramage up there in 2010.

Re: Margaritaville Canada
Yikes.
That's really.....north.
Well, at least Edmonton has won 5 Stanley Cups in its history.
Montreal, of course, has quite a few more - with the Canadiens (last team in Canada to win the Cup - 1993), Maroons, Victorias , Wanderers, Amateur Athletic Association and Shamrocks.
Then there's Toronto (Leafs, Arenas, Blueshirts and St Pats), Ottawa Senators, Victoria Cougars, Winnipeg Victorias, Kenora Thistles, Quebec Bulldogs, Vancouver Millionaires and the Calgary Flames.

Don't get me wrong-I'm all for making the trip, BUT it'll only happen if it's between June and September.Snowparrot wrote:Hey, if you work around my strange schedule, I just might meet you there!Wino you know wrote:I have an aunt, uncle, & cousin in Grande Prarie, AB.

I agree with everything you have said here...Edmonton is a major destination for folks who live in remote northern communities to get away from the cold and dark, long Canadian winters without the luxury of time or money to fly to a more exotic hotspot. A little taste of Margaritaville would be just the escape many northern Parrotheads would relish so close to home.
Plus, Jimmy stands to make a killing here...The oil boom is really only simmering a little bit right now and the oilsands will soon be back with a vengeance with all the readilly expendable spending money that comes with this development. It looks like a senseable business plan to this Buffett Phan!
