Who called Piratenurse about cancelled Vegas dates? Updated

Well, whadda ya know and who da thunk it. I was still feeling more than a little p.o.'d about the cancelled west coast/Vegas dates, especially since I'm eating nonrefundable airfare. Those of you who know me know I am a little redhead with a really big mouth. About 6 hours ago, I sent a rather scathing email to mville.com expressing my dissatisfaction in detail....lots of detail. I included my name and phone number. I added a double dog dare for them to send it to the big boys and a triple dog dare to call me back. Well.........

I just got a call from JB's manager, Howard Kaufman. We spoke for quite a while. He apologized profusely and said they thought they would have been giving plenty of advance notice, especially because it is so easy to book/cancel rooms in Vegas. He mentioned the tickets were never placed on sale. I explained Parrotheads jumped on good faith because the dates were posted on mville.com. I also explained that airfare is usually nonrefundable as are packages booked through travel agents or sites and that lots of pholks burned the money they had set aside for their only vacation during these tough times. He told me he has managed and been friends with Jimmy for years and wanted me to know he really does care about us Parrotheads. I think this was a lesson learned for them, as I now believe they never foresaw the negative impact the date cancellations would have, be it far in advance or not. I personally feel a lot better. Lessons learned on both sides here, actually. I won't jump so quickly next tour year, no matter how tempting our plan far in advance posts may be. I never, never expected anyone to call me, much less his manager. JB himself, well, even I think that's pushing it. I'll take this. Nice to know some of my Parrothead faith has been restored. Hope this helps with some other pholks as well.

OK, it's been another hour and I just got a call from Coleman, who oversees Margaritaville.com. He was not even aware that Howard had called me. We talked and he is a really nice guy. He said he was the one that pushed to post the entire list of concert dates at once and is sorry it caused anyone any problems. Again, I told him this is lessons learned all the way around. He reiterated that Jimmy is a nice guy and everyone involved cares about us Parrotheads. I believe him. It's something to see what a double dog dare will do! :D

Glad you got some measure of satisfaction Pirate Nurse. Did you mention to Mr. Kaufhman that perhaps, it might be a good idea to take the pulse of the fans every now and then......(Like at least reading a few of the posts on this site and the other Buffett sites...????) I mean he IS the Manager right???? Hard for the right hand to know what the left is doing if the Brain isn't talking to them and passing the info along. I applaud Coleman's idea to release the dates, it shows repect to the fans and is appriciated but now WE ALL understand the impact, fans, talent and management........

and did you give him our phriends in England's number so he could call and apologize to them too?

I am glad that you had the chance to be heard and got a more appropriate apology than the one posted on M'ville

Way to go! [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

Glad you got responses that will help renew your faith. Action equals reward.

To me, it just goes to show that

1. Voicing your complaint to the appropriate parties will go a lot farther than voicing it on a fan site.

and

2. Jimmy probably had very little or nothing to do with any of it, yet he took the brunt of all of the hostility and blame.

How do you know that the uproar on this site (plus others) isn’t what caused him to reach out to a BN’er?

I don't...

I don't know if she identified herself as a BNer...

But it's a lot easier to respond to a direct email with contact information.

i agree that the email with contact info was a very good idea. but i think the online uproar also got their attention.

Oh yeah, guys, they definitely know I am a BNr. I linked quotes from here. I told Howard one of my biggest regrets, besides eating the money, was missing seeing all my good BN friends. While I didn't recommend he check our pulse, I at least got across the point of the impact this decision made. Coleman got on BN with me today so he could read my post. He mentioned he rarely looks at it. He recognized my pic with Uncle Jim and when I told him we rode the Leaky Tiki together, he told me how he had thought he had lost Jim in the parking lot! I explained how I am not a big internet blogger, but fell into this helping with Frisco charity stuff last year and that I've made the best friends ever. I told him how many of my local friends were awol at my wedding, but I had BN buds drive in from out of town. I do think individual communications will get more attention than a fan site. It is up to us on this fan site to take the time to make those individual communications. It's info@margaritaville.com, pholks. At least now we have proof they do read the emails. The more communication they receive from us individually, the more attention they may pay to us as a whole. But I'm not buying Jimmy had little or nothing to do with it. I seriously doubt any bidness decisions happen without his direct involvement and approval. I'm not quite done yet. Next task at hand is addressing all of us going to Vegas for a phlocking without a concert and how can they make us feel a little better? Stay tuned.
