I was convinced of that right up until the doctor came up to me with my test results looking like this

and telling me they were gonna start an IV with antibiotics, morphine, and some anti-nausea med to help with the first two and asking me if I had any idea how sick I was (being the doctor, isn't he supposed to know that?

)
At that point it was too late to call my parents. Mom was not happy at all when she found out a few days later.

Good thing you had a stubborn boyfriend.

yeah, they come in handy... sometimes

Hubby called me after he had been at the ER for about three hours. He drove himself to the hospital because he was having symptoms of a heart attack. The first thing I thought when he called and told me he was at the hospital was the keet......by that time the first round of blood work was already back and the docs were thinking it was gall bladder not a heart attack (it was gall bladder).
Hubby sounded very calm and said he did not call until he had something to tell me. I was upset he did not call me right away but that's the way he is.
As a sidenote...apparently when you are in the ER now, the nurses quiz you about "abuse" at home whether you are a man or a woman. So, the nurse poses that question to my hubby who is a big guy.....his response was "my son mocks me - does that count?"
no sense of humor in the ER.

Yep. When I went in to have my cracked (and impressively purple and swollen) arm x-rayed, three different people asked me three different times to tell them *exactly* how I fell. I'm sure they compared stories...
I like your hubby's response.

You wanna hear calm?....7 years ago I was on a road trip with my girlfriend and my keets in my van and her motor home. We were in eastern Washington state and we were having electrical problems with the motor home. We were at a campground and I called my dad in California for advice. He walked me through the electrical problem. It took us about 45 minutes to fix it. When we were done he said, "Your mother is in the hospital, she had a massive stroke last night." I about went through the roof. He didn't want to freak me out, he was afraid I'd jump in the van and drive 1200 miles home with my kids. I did one better, I left my keet's with my friend and flew home. Good thing I did, mom passed away 7 day's later.

Never had to call my hubby with a big disaster of my own, but I did have to call him at work and tell him his father had passed away unexpectedly.......that was awful.

Yeah, I get the "is there anyone you are afraid of?" "has anyone hurt you?" questions whenever I break something. My standard answer. No, I'm just a klutz....

In college in new york talking to my cousin in maryland, she asked about my mom who lived in connecticut. i said "I guess she's fine." My cousin said "You know she's in the hospital." I said "I need to go." Called my dad, he hadn't told me because he didn't want me to panic.

Talk about bad ways....
My MIL called my wife and started off the conversation this way:
"E, we lost your grandfather today."
VERY LONG PAUSE
"But they were able to bring him back."

My parents did that shiat to me all the time. My mother even died with them doing that shiat and despite that fact and telling my dad how much it bothered me he continued to do it until he died. I made a promise to my son to never do that to him.
