On the day John Wayne died I found myself pulling into Montego Bay Yacht Club after a 6 day passage from Puerto Rico aboard TRADEWIND. We were met by a beautiful 6' tall brunette with a tray with 6 cold Red Stripes on it. Welcome to Jamaica.

Re: Thirty years ago today...
I thought this lyric from "Incommunicado" might be appropriate today:
Now on the day that John Wayne died
I found myself on the continental divide
Tell me where do we go from here?
Think I'll ride into Leadville and have a few beers
Think of "Red River","Liberty Valence" can't believe the old man's gone
Now on the day that John Wayne died
I found myself on the continental divide
Tell me where do we go from here?
Think I'll ride into Leadville and have a few beers
Think of "Red River","Liberty Valence" can't believe the old man's gone

I was about to say Well at least someone didn't say the stupid 'Sail on' but obviously I'm wrong about that.

On the day that John Wayne died, I found myself a 5th grader in Minnetonka, Minnesota getting ready to move back to Chicago with my family. I can remember watching "The Shootist" with my dad right before he died.

No, I just find the whole 'sail on' thing to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard or read. It's CHEESY.

Re: Thirty years ago today...
My dad was a MAJOR John Wayne fan. When ever a John Wayne movie was on tv he would find it and make us watch it!
He had a handmade pencil drawing of the Duke and some other poster of him hanging on our walls when I was little. He would tell me all the time that John Wayne was my grandpa. So me being the believing 5 year old go and tell all the neighborhood kids the news and bring them to the house and show them the pictures!
To this day I still watch my "grandpa" on the BIG SCREEN!!!!
You are missed, Marion Morrison!!!!
I know him and my daddy are having one bar brawlin' time in heaven!

I just don't see why someone has to say 'sail on' when they've been dead for centuries. Buffett said it in that remake of SOASOAS from MMIM and now it's what everyone says for someone who died?
Cheesy. Total cheese.
