Great Wolf Lodges - recommendations?

The 'keets are complaining that "every summer we do the same vacation ..... we go to the same beach (Sandbridge or OBX) and dad surfs".

While we'll still sneak in a beach week this summer .... I thought about taking the family up to the Niagara Falls area and camping for a few days on the Canadian side and then staying two nights at the Great Wolf Lodge up there and letting them have 2-3 days fun in the water park. It would be about a 7-8 hour drive to get there ... so once we're in the area I want to stay put for a week.

Anyone have any recommendations about the area, particularly the Canadian side of the falls? We may or may not decide to camp ... we might just pick a hotel or lodge and venture out to the falls and explore the area.

What about Great Wolf Lodges? Any experience with those? My kids are 10 and 12 respectively this summer.

We had a blast at the Great Wolf Lodge here Mothers Day Weekend. I've spent a lot of time at waterparks and it was a pretty nice one. We had the Kids Kamp Suite I think, and it had a bunk bed, king size bed, and a sleeper sofa. Worked great for the 5 of us.

At 10 and 12 I'm not sure I'd let the kids roam free, but lots of people did. There is an interactive scavenger hunt game that takes the kids through the stairwell to the first 5-6 floors. It's a good 2 solid hours of running around all over the place. I drank beer and did it with our 7 and 9 year old. You pay $20 for a wand and then point it at items as you find them from the list, and the computer keeps track of where you are in the game. We did it at night after the park was closed. I think they turned it off at 11. It was a good time.

By the time you pay for 2 days of meals and lodging you'll probably be out close to $1000, but you'll have fun.

We have a Great Wolf here that we go to. It has always been fun, but since Kalahari built their largest park we have been going there. I like Great Wolf's rooms- we used to get the loft suites. There are plenty activities for the kids.

There is also a new water park attached to the Sheraton on the Falls (not to be confused with the Fallsview Sheraton- you do not want this one). We have stayed at the Sheraton on the Falls and it is great! Granted, it was before the water park was finished, but the view is incredible. It is right at the bottom of Clifton Hill, so all of the cool things to do are right there (wax museums, Rainforest Cafe, etc.). In the same complex (Fallsview Complex), basically all attached to the hotel are a casino, Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Hershey store, Starbucks and many other little shops. Here is the link http://www.fallsviewwaterpark.com/hotels.php . They have just room rates or rooms w/water park pass rates.
