He has also had....believe it or not FATS DOMINO open for him, Michael McDonald, Little Richard and Buckwheat Zydeco!

Are you sure it wasn't DEBBIE DAVIES?? She's a Blues guitarist. Would have LOVED to caught Fingers & her jamming......and the Zydeco master Buckwheat.......he's classic!!

I remember reading somewhere (I can't remember where) that Fingers loves to play the blues so this may not be that much of a stretch if it is true.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Personally, I think Jimmy's opening act is better then any opening act I have ever witnessed. Thats because his opening act is the tailgate before his shows. Sometimes it's a struggle just to get in in time to see Jimmy's first song. If he did actually have an opening act they would have to be good or I probably wouldn't see them anyway.

1972 - Quiet Knight - Chicago - for Neil Sedaka, no less (making a comeback). Also same timeframe/place for Bob Marley !

1972 (?) - Atlanta - Billy Joel . Joel got sick and couldn't play, but Jimmy couldn't fill in because he was too drunk !

Didn't Robert Earl Keene open for Jimmy last year or the year before in Houston?

In Dallas way back in the day, I have seen Evangeline, The Neville Brothers, and Todd Snider....interestingly enough, each time I have seen an opening act for Jimmy, he has come on to join them, even before his set.
I remember Marshall Chapman vaguely back in the day when Dallas had 'Starfest' out between where Medical City Hospital is and 635. I know she was playing with the Reefers that day. I don't think she opened.
I say vaguely because it was the first week of August and the show started at 4 PM....it was 106 that day in a rolling field and no cover anywhere. (the only good thing was you could drag in your own coolers and food)
I do remember Jimmy's first words were, ' I thought we were all crazy up here on the stage, but you people are F****** Nuts.'

Yes he did. As a REK fan, i kinda over did it when he came on stage and Buffett was a blur after On the Road again waiting for a beer in the dugout. Moderation is hard when your two favorites share the stage.

And for who said that his 1st show was Buffett and Neville brothers that had to be awsome.

One of the coolest opening acts was the Desperadoes Steel Band that opened up for him in Key West for a Salt Flats and Reef fundraiser.....Jimmy came out a played "King of Somewhere Hot" with them - totally awesome....

Dave Hoekstra of the Sun-Times mentioned this and you guys are driving me crazy, or at least making me think I"M crazy! I was at this show, (didn't miss a Chicago show in the 80s), and Riatt opened for Buffett. I'm sure of it, the only time I've seen Buffett open for anyone, was in 1977, for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, which I mentioned in an earlier post. I remember Bonnie Riatt's appearance, it was very good. But it was as an opening act for Buffett, I'm quite sure......unless my brain is fried more than I think!
