If I can remember correctly:

Neville Brothers, Off To See The Lizard Tour, The Palace, 1989
Bonnie Raitt, Somewhere Over China, Pine Knob, 1982
Zachary Richard, Jimmy's Jump Up, The Palace and Alpine Valley, 1990
Little Feat, The Palace, 1988
Evangeline, Pine Knob, 1991?

Those are all I can remember. I can't remember 1984, 85, 86, 87. Haven't seen a shed show since 1992. Just two Margaritaville shows plus some Jazz Fest shows and the New Orleans Arena in 1999 which, I believe, did not have an opening act.

Little Feat could have been a fun show...

By far Zachary Richard was probably the best. It's between him and Bonnie Raitt. Both were excellent and I became fans of both of them because of opening for JB.

The Neville Bros have proven to be quite dull actually - lately live they sound just like their records, which I find to be quite boring.

Amazing Rhythm Aces opened for JB during the Volcano tour (1980 or 81?)

Didn't Oingo Boingo (Danny Elfman's group) open for Jimmy in the eighties or was that a misnomer?

I kind of like having no opening band. It is nice to be able to tailgate up to the last minute and know exactly when to head to the show, rather than going early to a show and having to sit through some crappy opening act and spend a bunch of money on beer at the venue.

Just my thoughts.

I agree with you on that one....I think it's a lot more fun with no opening act.

Nobody said you have to go in when the opening act is playing.

Did they?

I've enjoyed the opening acts. And I stay away from the beer.

Good for you.

I have seen a lot of good and too many bad opening acts that have ended up bleeding into the artist's time that I came to see. I generally don't mind opening acts, good or bad, but not at a Buffett show. As I said, I would rather sit in the parking lot longer, drink my own beer, and pee on the side of a bus or in the brush. The tailgating is too much fun just to leave it early and try to "time" when Jimmy is going to start playing due to some cover band. Give me a time the guy is going to play, and I will show up 15 minutes early.

It is good you stay away from the beer. I hear it can do bad things to your liver.

For the cost of a ticket, I'm in favor for another 40 min of music. House music doesn't count.

Hey HD18JBGuy, usually the opening act is someone Jimmy likes. Therefor, you should abandon your JB righteousness as well as the p*** on a bus or a bush and get in and hear some music. YOU PAID FOR IT.

And stay away from the beer - it just makes you...p*** in bushes or on buses or vans.
