BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida city is cleaning up with a new dress code that requires city workers to wear underwear and use deodorant.

The city council in Brooksville north of Tampa recently approved a dress code that instructs employees to observe "strict personal hygiene." It also prohibits exposed underwear, clothing with foul language, "sexually provocative" clothes and piercings anywhere except the ears.

Repeat offenders can be fired.

The city council approved the dress code 4-1 as part of a wider effort to update existing policies and ordinances.

The one vote in opposition came from Mayor Joe Bernadini. He said the underwear edict "takes away freedom of choice."

Is the application going to ask: Do you have genetal piercings?

I can see requiring an employee to not stink - ie bathe but wearing underwear and piercings is just a little too intrusive IMO.

seems discriminatory and a potential sexual harassment suit when someone is wrongly accused.

The question here is who is rsponsible for checking to see there arent any violators. After all if you can't have your underwear exposed, how can you tell if someone is wearing any?

This is going to end up all the way to the Supreme Court if they try to enforce it. All some yahoo has to say is it is against his religion to wear deodorant and underwear.

Hey, if that's asking too much... and IMO that's nothing compared to what they demand of you in the armed forces..
than we're free to choose to NOT work there.

Is the idea of a dress code and code of conduct is really that offensive?

I swear, there's enough people around already who probably wish they just live every single flippin' day
wearing a snuggy, with a giant diaper, and Crocs :-?

Great idea! We could market some Depends undergarments towards parrotheads complete with tropical colors and flowers on them. Great way to avoid long lines at the can.
When you see me smilin' or maybe grimacing at the Buffett tailgate you'll know what's up

i have had to tell a student that she either needed to buy pants that were cut higher or get longer shirts. no one really wanted to see her bright blue thong when she bent over in a classroom of 2nd graders...
