Going to Chicago
Hello BNers! ContinentalDrifterIII and I are taking a short trip to Chicago in August to see the Mets play the Cubs. The game is Friday afternoon, and then we'll have Friday night, all day and night Saturday, and most of the day Sunday to spend exploring, eating, and drinking. Any good recommendations for restaurants and bars? Other do-not-miss ideas? I'm starting my research!

I haven't been to these, but they look like they have the potential for PH coolness-

Why don't you come out 8/12 - 16. See the Phils take on the Cubs and then hit the JB show that Saturday.

Re: Going to Chicago
I went to Wrigley once, quite a while ago...maybe 94 or 95. CDIII hasn't been there & is looking forward to it! Now we're just wondering if it's a better idea to buy tickets now or just wait and see who's selling outside Wrigley. Hmmm...fabduo wrote:lilsalty wrote:Well, CDIII (my hubby and traveling partner) has a bachelor party in AC that weekend...plus it's the METS we want to see, not the hated Phillies!!Seas in my veins wrote:Why don't you come out 8/12 - 16. Re: Going to Chicago
I don't know if it's true, but I heard somewhere that MAC MACANALLY will be playing at the Pearl Room in Mokena, IL (one of the western suburbs) on that night.
Unfortunately, for me, it's the night before the Alpine concert, or I'd be there too, since Larry and I have often talked about meeting there for a CUBS/METS game.
Anyway, there's a sports bar just one block south of Wrigley Field on Clark Street called SLUGGERS.
They make some really great burgers and steak fries, among other things.
One thing Chicago has a surplus on is some of the greatest restaurants in the world.

Good recommendations! I want deep dish pizza, a Chicago Hot Dog and an Italian Beef sandwich! (Not all at once). Where would you go to get the best of these?

Re: Going to Chicago
Another great place for deep dish pizza is the Home Run Inn on W. 31st Street.
Nothing like the frozen ones you buy at the supermarket. The ones they make at this place are fantastic.
There's also a place that serves great pizza, great Chicago dogs, and great Italian beef just five blocks west of Wrigley Field. It's on Addison Street, and it's called D'Agostinos (or something like that). Anytime I'm at a Cub game, I always stop there afterwards. Terrific service too.
And even though you didn't ask, anytime I'm in Chicago, I always, ALWAYS have breakfast at a downtown restaurant called Tempos.
It's at the corner of Chestnut & State Streets (just a block from the Hancock Center).
Best eggs benedict in the world.
They serve a complete breakfast menu, omeletts, pancakes, you name it.
There's even outside seating if you want.
You should try it.
In any event, have fun.

Well, I think when in Chicago you must do Pizza
Lou Melnati's
Uno's
Those are two of my favorites.
Also, Trader Vic's just reopened. Good drinks and fun there
Goose Island Brewing Company is worth your time. There is one in Wrigleyville.
