Singer Gloria Estefan and her husband, producer Emilio Estefan,
are buying a "very small" ownership stake in the Miami Dolphins.
A person familiar with the negotiations confirmed the deal to
The Associated Press on Monday. The person requested anonymity
because the deal won't be announced until Thursday by owner Stephen
Ross.
Seven-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan has had hits with Miami
Sound Machine and as a solo artist. Ross began a partnership in May
with singer Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville enterprise, which
includes Land Shark Lager.
Buffett has yet to accept Ross' invitation to become a minority
owner, but the Dolphins' stadium has been renamed Land Shark
Stadium for this season. It's unclear whether the Estefans will
have a role in Dolphins entertainment.

Having lived in Miami for a total of 22 years, I would say that having the Estafan's involved with the Dolphins is not a pleasant arrangement at all. Jimmy's new song for the team, for starters, will be put in question. The Estafans will do a Spanish song to replace it. In my time the Estafan's have strongly supported the majority of the community in Miami, which are the Hispanics. And rightfully so, I will add. Also, keep in mind that the Hispanic community in Miami/Dade is an econiomicly very strong community. it's very different from other cities in the U.S. The Estafans however, never lifted a finger to help the Anglo community, or the African American community there. Emilio Estafan also has a reputation of backing people into corners in business arrangements. He's made people sign away their rights to compensation for future royalties, which violates music law. If people protested, he'd just get someone who was more hungry. Oh, they come across in the press with big smiles and all, but in reality, there are not the "nice" people they crank themselves up to be. I tend to think having the Dolphins, the Estafans, and Jimmy all in bed together will end up as a stressfull situation.
