Capt. Tony Memorial

. . . . . . . .
The Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club is honored that PHiP will place a Memorial Reef Ball for Captain Tony on our club’s Parrot Head Reef. We are now only 26 days away from July 18th, which is the day we deploy the “Capt. Tony Reef Ball.” We have seven clubs who have purchased reef balls which will also be deployed that day, and we have Parrot Heads coming from other clubs to join with the Tarracino family in honoring the memory of Capt. Tony. It will be a moving event. It is our hope that we will honor Capt. Tony the way his family, their extended family of friends at PHiP, and its affiliated Parrot Head clubs imagined it would be.
At this time we need to start finalizing all the details involved in making this event successful. I have received emails and phone calls regarding spectators and divers. We now need to know final numbers so accommodations can be made for everyone coming to town. If you have already spoken to me, please email me again to guarantee that you are on the list. We have club members volunteering their boats to spectators and divers, and we have arranged to charter an Aquarian Quest Catamaran which holds 40 people at a charge of $30 pp. Anyone who is planning to bring their boats that day and have room for extra passengers, please let me know ASAP so we can find a place for all that want to be involved. (If you are joining a boat crew, please be prepared to assist financially with boat fuel or captain fuel ... Booze.) The seven Club Reef Balls and Capt. Tony’s Memorial Ball will be carried by a shrimp boat on Friday night and will be waiting at Parrot Head Reef on Saturday morning for our arrival.
Now is the time for final commitment! Want to be involved? We need head counts from the clubs involved, PHiP, the family members, and our club’s boaters, spectators and divers. Please RSVP ASAP if you plan on being there for this monumental event.
The honor that has been bestowed upon our club to be the keeper of the Capt. Tony Reef Ball will be met with great respect. Fellow Parrot Heads that will visit Sarasota in the future are welcome to contact us to dive or snorkel our great reef, which is composed of over 30 reef balls in the shape of the compass rose, with a special memorial area graced by our lost “Angels in Tropical Shirts.”
We have arranged for special rates with hotels in the area for those coming from out of town for this event. The names, phone numbers, and the rate are listed at the bottom of this page.
Also, Friday July 17th, we are having our annual sunset cruise on LeBarge here in Sarasota, leaving the docks at 7:00 pm with Sunny Jim White playing on board. The cost is $20 per person. If anyone would like to join us, please let us know as soon as possible.
