It's a quiet down here in Mexico tonight. I have night desk duty, listening to a little Buffett..."I Wish Lunch Would Last Forever"...and I started daydreaming about favorite "forever" lunch places.
For a lunch to last forever it has to have booze, preferably starting with (and ending with) Champagne. There has to be good food of course, hopefully something a little out of the ordinary, and an ambience condusive to romance. It also has to be in the type of place where you will run into old friends, or make new ones as the day proceeds.
I think my one of my favorite all day forever lunch places is the Napoleon House in New Orlean's French Quarter. You can't beat a rainy afternoon in the Quarter spent in the crumbling structure of the Napoleon House nibbling fried oysters, barbeque shrimp and jambalaya, sipping Pimm's Cups and mimosas and chatting with the customers who wander in.

I have not been to the Napolean House...but looking at their menu i will be going there when i am in NOLA for Six String in August!!!!

not too far from you guys we had lunch at the Casa Cenote Restraurant in Akumal.
Great food and atmosphere. I truly wish that lunch could have lasted forever.
We didn't have champagne though....just lots of Sol beer.

Last Friday Marilyn and I enjoyed lunch at the Beachcomber out on Cape Cod with Dave& Carol(MacPhin &Tagalong), Pam ( ScarlettB) and Tam (Tonga Tam)....we had the raw bar and other foods, Goombay Smashes, Dark & Stormy's and lots of beer......then went down and hung out on the beach.....when we were packing up I remember wanting the day not to end.

That is one of my most favorite Buffett songs....and one I try to replicate as often as possible with a good friend (usually my youngest daughter). Lots of good red wine and preferably on a bistro patio. Hmm, think it's time to schedule one.

Wow...I think I have a couple of those, but probably more so to do with the company than the actual place.
Last year at El Siboney in Key West is definitely one.
The other - a couple of years ago, a most memorable little spot in Fort Lauderdale. This song was definitely playing in my head... and in my heart.

i love that song. a day at the comber is a must.
another time i would love to last forever is a summer late afternoon when i'm on the beach. last sunday was such a gorgous day, the temp was perfect, the light was wonderful. i didn't want to go back to the house. when we're on vaca, i love to stay on the beach as long as the light will allow. we'll have some beverages, food and take it all in.aahhhh
