And so it begins.......First weekend with our house divided three ways...... We've got on Boston College shirts on now and the flag is flying...at halftime, we'll change into our Clemson gear.......then we can at least stay dressed for the Virginia Tech game.....

For the second week in a row the Irish get a TD taken away by an instant replay call.
But this time they hung on to win despite losing their star reciever to a broken collar bone.

What td was that?? the one the refs got right by calling it incomplete on floyd? Only to have the homer NBC dudes say it was a touchdown over and over showing how much they dont know about the rules of college football. For the record, the continuation rule states you must maintain control and possession thru impact with the ground. The defender had a hand on the ball so he didnt have possession and it came out before he hit the ground. The refs got it right, of course the Nbc homers only said that in the second half for about 10 seconds dont want to p off their employers Notre Dame.

Homer announcers? Pat Haden went to USC. That would be like having Dierdorf or Desmond Howard calling games for MSU. They did mention the continuation rule, and it looked like the ball came out after he hit the ground.

If I am a Big Ten I would have serious concerns about the conference officials the rest of the season. They have been horrible in the games I have seen so far.

Their officals have been horrible this season. However, it was a continuation rule and I do agree with that.

I think it was more the equivalent of the Miami game last year. Never in doubt but a little closer than expected.

Yes and no. In appearance and outcome, yes. I say no because of the details. The Miami game, 2nd game of the season, rusty, not sure of an identity, it wasn't a surprise to see them struggle. By Ole Miss, things were a little different. We didn't execute well, poor tackling, game plan wasn't the usual, a couple uncharacteristic tournovers, a couple poor choices.....In the way the game was played and how it turned out, it's more like the Ole Miss game. The difference is we were disciplined enough to overcome that instead of imploding.

First and foremost in the spirit of the Parrothead nation, I would like to sincerely apologize for my part in the bickering that has occurred in this thread over the last couple of weeks. I have been an active member of several message boards over the last 10 years, but none as long as Buffettnews. The reason…because Parrotheads come here to get away and enjoy the “finer” things in life like beach music, boat drinks, and being carefree. Most of the other message boards I have been a part of (mainly sports) have become overridden with people that make it a daily habit to personally attack others and cause friction. It’s amazing what some people will say behind the security of their computer monitor. Unfortunately, I have found myself resorting to those actions the last couple of weeks in this thread and I sincerely apologize. I’ve stayed away from here for a few days trying to take a step back and think about everything since BEG and LIPH voiced a much-needed request for a halt of all the trash talk. I appreciate you guys for making me realize I was taking part in ruining what can be a fun thread. It would make since for me to remove myself from this thread for the rest of the year, but I truly enjoy this thread. I hope that you will accept my apology and allow me to continue to get excited about my Vols and talk football without resorting to name-calling and personal attacks. While I do not wish to condone or make excuses for my negative actions, I would like to give some of you that wish to read a look into my football passion…….


I was born in Lakenheath, England while my father was serving in the United States Air Force. My parents had both grown up in Knoxville and actually both attended UT for a brief period of time before moving overseas. They were both big Vol fans and brought me home from the hospital in all orange. Many of my pictures as an infant were made in Tennessee outfits. I still have my first stuffed animal as a child sent to me from here…..”Smokey” the Tennessee Mascot. My father took me to a couple of spring scrimmages when I was only two and three years old. My first official UT home game was in September of 1985 (I was four). Unranked Tennessee defeated #1 in the nation Auburn and Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson 38-20, evening causing Jackson to take himself out of the game in the 3rd quarter because of frustration – not injury. Students and fans stormed the field and ripped down the goalposts that afternoon, scaring me half to death but giving me a small glimpse of the passion of Vol fans. In November of 1990, I had the flu and was running a temperature of 101 degrees. My father was going to leave me at home and go to the game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish featuring “Rocket” Ishmail. After much crying, I convinced my father to take me anyway, much to my mother’s disapproval. Notre Dame was heavily favored, but Tennessee hung in there and was on the game-winning drive when QB Andy Kelly threw an interception to a MLB in the endzone with seconds left in the game. Tennessee lost 29-34…I cried. I was there after Alabama had beat us 8 times in a row. I was there in 1992 when Phillip Fulmer coached his first game against the Gators in the pouring down rain. The Vols rushed to a big win which was dubbed “Monsoon Phillip”. Perhaps the most exciting thing I’ve ever done was being on the field helping to rip the goalposts down after beating Florida in overtime in 1998. I grew up watching Tim McGee, Carl Pickens, Dale Carter, James “Little Man” Stewart, Chuck Webb, Reggie Cobb, Charlie Garner, Jamal Lewis, Peyton Manning, Peerless Price, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, Donte Stallworth, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, and many more from my 8th row season ticket I still hold today. I’ve only missed 6 home games in 25 years. I’ve been to 12 Tennessee vs. Kentucky games in Lexington, 11 Vanderbilt games in Nashville, as well as Birmingham, Alabama; Athens, Georgia; Columbia, South Carolina; Tampa, Florida; Orlando, Florida; and 4 SEC Championship games in Atlanta, Georgia. Call it obsession and I can’t argue with you. I eat Tennessee Football, breath Tennessee Football, and sleep Tennessee Football 365 days a year. My wife will tell you that I care more about Tennessee Football than I do her…I just smile. It’s in my blood and always will be. I love every minute of it…even the losses. Football is a passion, maybe even a religion, in the South and especially in Knoxville, Tennessee. Please forgive me sometimes…I can’t help it. It’s great to be a Tennessee Vol!





By the way, it’s only 360 days until the Gators come to Knoxville! Go Big Orange!

Should be a good game tonight. Not sure if I'll catch much of it. Hopefully there's tv in the hospital room where I can at least peep it every now and then. To me, Ole Miss needs to show me something to warrant their top 5 ranking. I guess we will see. I think the 'ol ball coach's offense is coming around. Hopefully this game will be as good as most college games have been.

Wow, great game last night! I hate to see a top 5 SEC team go down, but it was a great game. Houston Nutt and Ole' Miss still haven't shown that they can win big games when they are favored. Seems like he always does better as the underdog.

You said it right there B.R..... Nutt is not the coach to take you to the promised land. He's a 9-3/1 upset special a season guy at best, which for Ole Miss is pretty damn good. Hopefully Ole Miss won't lose their composure though & will hang with Bama & LSU later in the year.

It's so weird that you've got a Spurrier Coached team that has a defense that normally plays lights out, yet offensively has a rough time. If the "O" could ever catch up with the "D" consistently 1 of these years USC could challenge in the SEC East, but until then....not.

You know, it seems like it's been this way his whole time at SC. You would have thought that after 5 years, the offense would be a little more "Spurrier fun-and-gun" type. I just don't think he's ever been able to recruit the QB he's wanted in there and to be honest, he never will because he'll retire at the end of this season. I truly believe that.
