I saw a report about this on the 'net. It said they didn't know how long he'd be out but he's "unlikely to play this Saturday." Ya think?
Yeah, I saw that too. Talk about needing a dope slap.

from ESPN:

According to the Los Angeles Times, a source close to the family said surgeons worked to realign Johnson's larynx in hopes he will be able to use his voice.

It's unlikely Johnson will be able to play again this season, but his prognosis is good and doctors expect him to make a full recovery, Hinika said in a statement released by the hospital.

Over 7 hours of surgery...yikes. They didn't just realign his larynx, they rebuilt it. And having studied this part of the anatomy extensively during college, it makes me nauseous every time I think about what happened to him. The good news is that so far I haven't heard of any damage to the vocal cords themselves. While his voice may not be the same as it was, there are good indications that he will be able to speak relatively normally. I imagine scar tissue could be an issue down the road though. He's got a long recovery ahead, but considering this injury very easily could have been fatal, all of this is pretty good news. He definitely was an NFL prospect, so I hope he'll still get that chance if he wants it. Fight on, Stefon!

Edit: not surprisingly, Stafon had to have a g-tube inserted into his stomach, it will be a long time before he can eat normally. There are conflicting reports on the tracheotomy. A local doctor indicated he had had one, but no one has said when it was done. There are no reports of him not breathing after the accident, and if he was coughing up blood he at least had some airway. All reports indicate he was very calm after it happened, so it sounds like it was done to ventilate him for surgery. One of his surgeons made it very clear that only his level of fitness and strength saved his life. His large "football neck" saved his life, anyone else would have been dead within minutes. That's a sobering thought.

Bowl games need to be at warm weather sites, even if the stadium has a dome. I wouldn't want to watch this game in person. Outdoors in NY, in late December?

Central Michigan leads in nation in stopping teams on 4th down!!! :D

I'd like to know who did the market research for this game. Let's get 2 non-championship caliber teams and bring them to the Bronx. In December. In an open air stadium. Yeah baby!!!! They'll be knocking down the doors for this one.

No - ticket prices were CRAZY! They were selling student SRO tickets for $65. We could have gotten tickets with our season ticket package for $300. No way we were going to spend that for one game when our season tickets cost $250.

A local representative was selling spots in a 50 yard line suite for just a simple $2000 donation to his re-election campaign.

I'll be sitting on my sofa, recovering from the flu, praying we show up for the game. It is the first time we are going to be on TV and, well, we have a history of looking really bad on TV.

Especially if he's gonna be in a Jags uniform next year
Too much is being made out of this concussion. He got hit, he got kneed in the head, he got a concussion. Concussions happen every game, but let it happen to a high profile player and it's suddenly this big controversy. A lot of hack reporters saying Tebow should stop running the ball (ironic since he was hit in the pocket while passing, not running the ball). Saying Meyer needs to be careful how soon he plays Tebow (stupid, because the Docs decide Tebow's schedule, not Meyer), and how he shouldn't have been in the game at that point anyway (not like there was 2 minutes to go).

You hate to see any player get hurt, regardless of the injury. This concussion is no different than any other injury. I trust the doctors, which UF has some of the best available in the country, and we'll move on. It was his first concussion ever...if he comes back and gets one 2 weeks later, then worry. For now, I wish they'd all shut up. There's plenty of other good games and things going on in college ball 8)

How about those Fighting Irish! Can you think of a QB you would rather have with the
game on the line and time running out than Jimmy Clausen? Notre Dame's defense looked
bad throughout, but put on three awesome goaline stands when it counted.

GO IRISH!

PLEASE. Try to keep in mind that they were playing the UW who for some reason or other (I have no idea why)
have a curse upon them and they can't beat ND. Even in the 90's when they had the game locked up and all they had
to do was sit on the damn ball they managed to lose the game.
