From the article:
"About the author: Jim Scherrer has owned property in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for 26 years and resided there for the past eleven years. The mission of his series of 57 articles pertaining to retirement in Puerto Vallarta is to reveal the recent changes that have occurred in Vallarta while dispelling the misconceptions about living conditions in Mexico. For the full series of articles regarding travel to and retirement in Vallarta as well as pertinent Puerto Vallarta links, please visit us at http://www.PVREBA.com." (emphasis and highlighting mine)
For the record, PVREBA stands for "Puerto Vallarta Real Estate Buyers' Agents"; in other words, realtors. And the fact that Mr. Scherrer has written 57 articles (so far) pertaining to retirement in PV tells me that he is nothing more than a shill for this organization and would probably tell people that Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Barack Obama, and Farrah Fawcett all had places in PV if he thought it would help sell more property.
On the plus side, it was an interesting article, and told me far more about tequila and agave plants than I ever needed or wanted to know.

That may be counterproductive.

Yup, good stuff, he’s quite the salesman for sure, sales must be dropping off down there. PV was pretty cool back in the 70’s but it has become your basic over populated, hotel jammed, contrived Mexico tourist town, not even CLOSE to paradise or Margaritaville as he puts it, IMHO. I'll hand it to him though, his creative writting is, well, creativeJustDucky wrote:This is a pretty interesting way to look at it. Nice history too:

The history and knowledge of the agave and tequila is the most interesting part.
Maybe it's not going well down there because they get creamed every year by a hurricane.

Margaritaville in PV!? We have to respectfully disagree.
Margaritaville requires that deep beautiful blue water found in the Caribbean. Exhibit A: http://playazone.wordpress.com/2009/06/ ... and-words/
OH...and rum. Margaritaville requires lots of Caribbean Rum.
IOHO.

Next time I run across something of this nature I'll do a little more digging. Didn't realise it was such a baited article. Or something of that nature.
Makes me wonder though - if tequila can only be called tequila if it's from agaves within however many miles from that town then...where is Jimmy's agave farm?

Ducky, it's like champagne. To be actual, true champagne it must be produced from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France; otherwise by European law it can't be labeled "champagne" but must be called "sparkling wine" (See also "Asti spumate", which is an Italian sparkling wine produced in the champagne method, but to be a true "Asti" spumante must be made from grapes grown in the Asti region of Italy).JustDucky wrote:Next time I run across something of this nature I'll do a little more digging. American vintners, on the other hand, will give the name "champagne" to anything that fizzes and isn't soda pop.
American tequilas are probably the same thing. If it looks, tastes, and bites like tequila, then it must be tequila and the agave plant can be dambed.
