Hampton/Rye Beach, NH
Heading to NH for an extended family trip the first week of August. We are staying at Seaside Village. From what I remember from previous trips years ago the place is a dump but it is on the beach! Any local knowledge about places to eat, entertainment etc. is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Hampton/Rye Beach, NH
Here's the Hampton CoC website: http://www.hamptonbeach.org/ for local happenings.
For fine dining go to Ron's Landing in Hampton Beach.
On Rt. 1 in Hampton we like Lamey's Tavern and Widow Fletcher's Tavern. Neither is real fancy and the food is good without breaking the bank
For drinks with a great view of Hampton Beach go to the Sea Ketch or the Boardwalk Cafe. La Bec Rouge just opened a rooftop deck, and the food is very good and reasonable. DO NOT eat at Mama Leone's.
For a good, inexpensive meal you should go to LUPO'S Restaurant on 1A in N. Hampton. Not much to look at, but has outside dining and a cute little bar. For seafood I think Cap'n Jack's is overrated, usually crowded and slow. We prefer to take 1A through Hampton to Seabrook, turn onto Rt. 286 and go to either Brown's or Markey's. Basic take-out style seafood with indoor seating on a river. Take your pick.
For breakfast we like Lupo's and the Egg Shell in Hampton on Ashworth Blvd.
If you continue down down 1A from Seabrook you get into Salisbury, MA, the home of Tens Show Club - a top notch strip club.
Fireworks at Hampton every Wednesday night. Some type of band performs every night at the band shell across from the Casino. Don't forget the Casino Ballroom for comedians and bands. http://www.casinoballroom.com/events.php
I hope the weather is better!!!
Enjoy!

I love that area. Went there a lot as a kid and have been back a few times as an adult. The Smutty Nose Brewery in Portsmouth is one of my favorite brew pubs. While I am on the topic of beer, the Red Hook brewery in the area has a nice tour. The shows at Prescott Park in Portsmouth are always good, too.

I would agree with luvinlife. I wouldn't stay in Hampton Beach. Too expensive, especially in the summer.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Any place on the seacoast will be expensive in the summer. The 2 places luvinlife listed are $$$.aeroparrot wrote:I would agree with luvinlife. I wouldn't stay in Hampton Beach. Too expensive, especially in the summer.
I forgot to list my favorite seafood place in the world, Newick's in Dover (on Dover Point).

Not fancy (plastic utensils) with table service and a nice river view. Well worth the wait on a busy day. Excellent lobster stew. Probably the only place we frequent that we can say we've NEVER had a bad meal.

Re: Hampton/Rye Beach, NH
Thanks again for the suggestions. What about a place to buy fresh seafood to cook back at the rental?

Eastman's Fish Market is on the right just before the bridge going into Seabrook. Cross over the bridge and on the right is the Yankee Fisherman's Co-op.Afternoon Golfer wrote:Thanks again for the suggestions. What about a place to buy fresh seafood to cook back at the rental?
