Re: Which MJ song should Jimmy cover this tour?
I can hear Jimmy singing this song
When the world is on your shoulder
Gotta straighten up your act and boogie down
If you cant hang with the feeling
Then there aint no room for you this part of town
cause were the party people
night and day
Livin crazy thats the only way
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
And just enjoy yourself
Groove, let the madness in the music get to you
Life aint so bad at all
If you live it off the wall
Life aint so bad at all
Live your life off the wall
You can shout out all you want to
cause there aint no sin in folks all getting loud
If you take the chance and do it
Then there aint no one whos gonna put you down
cause were the party people night and day
Livin crazy thats the only way
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
And just enjoy yourself
Cmon and groove, and let the madness in the music get to you
Life aint so bad at all
If you live it off the wall
Life aint so bad at all
Live your life off the wall

Been there, done that song already, Jimmy?
Thinking way back, kids, to the '84 tour.
Jimmy played Canada's Wonderland in Toronto during the Canada Day weekend.
At one point, I recall a cutout of Michael Jackson onstage and one of his hits of the day playing. Jimmy promptly ends the skit and the concert continues...
(We also had a Fingers cutout; no harp player that night.)
...done that, but no T-shirts. The souvenir truck didn't make it across the border, we were informed.

"Which MJ song should Jimmy cover this tour?"
That just made me throw up in my mouth.
Jimmy has such an amazing catalogue. It depresses me to think that folks consider covers for Jimmy prior to Jimmy tunes.
I think Jimmy needs to sit down with the Reefers and watch "Dusty". Maybe he'll take something away from that (like getting back to his roots). It's going to be pretty sad when this new generation of Jimmy "fans" see his (Jimmy's) legacy of being nothing more than a cover band.

One year in Pensacola, must have been the late 80's, MJ was in town practicing for some big tour. He had the civic center rented for like 3 weeks. Most of the radio/TV stations were doing "Michael Jackson sightings" and such. It was waaaay annoying. But MJ had to give up the venue for Buffett's show. When JB came out he apologized for starting late. He said, "I was told Michael Jackson was opening for me but the little motherf**ker didn't show up."
Love in the library, quiet and cool.

My sentiments too, and please stop playing Whacko on the radio here in the UK It's constant and annoying now!!!JustDucky wrote:Not even funny. JB should NOT cover anything by Whacko PERIOD.
Why would he? Because he died? Nobody gave a s*** about Whacko while he was alive musically for the past 15 years or whatever. All of the sudden everyone says they love him. He hadn't done anything for eons, he most likely would not have played even HALF the 50 shows at the O2, he was more famous for being weird and famous than he was for his talent for the past 20 years or whatever.
Plenty of other musicians die. Why not do a song from all of 'em? JB does the songs of a friend of his that died - Steve Goodman. He's done some Beatles...whatever else. But Michael Jackson?
No thanks.

Elvis redid Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes"; did that make Elvis a "cover artist"?
I have a 45 single here of the Beatles doing "My Bonnie" ("My Bonnie lies over the ocean"); does that make the Beatles a "cover band"?
Paul Simon released a song called "American Tune" on his album "Here Comes Rhymin' Simon"; the melody is largely based on a theme from the chorale from "St. Matthew's Passion", written by J. S. Bach. Does that make Paul Simon a "cover artist"?
For that matter, "American Tune" itself has been covered by Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, the Indigo Girls, and the Starland Vocal Band (of "Afternoon Delight" fame), among others. Does that make each of these artists mere "cover bands"?
There is a long history of musicians taking an existing song and putting their own take on it. Sometimes it works out better than the original; a lot of times it doesn't. But just because someone like JB or Willy Nelson or Elvis recognizes a good song and redoes it doesn't necessarily relegate them to "cover artist" status.
