He means the Tour de France, abbreviated TdF. The thing was, a couple of days ago was the stage where they ran the team time trial — abbreviated TTT — so I think that's where he got confused.

Team car 1 is the team's on-road office; it follows the riders and carries water, some food, the team mechanic and spare bikes/wheels for the riders. In addition, it is the command center for the team director; he is right there behind the racers and able to communicate with them via radio to keep them informed of developments. He marshals and rallies the team, and while they do have a basic plan at the start of the day's stage he is in position to make strategic changes and adjustments on-the-fly. There are other team vehicles that are used by other support people who go out on the course ahead of time to hand up food bags (musettes) to the riders as they pass through certain areas (referred to as the feed zones).

As far as Jimmy riding in the car, all I can say is that Lance has a thing for celebrities, probably because he knows they can help spread the word about his foundation. Other celebs include Robin Williams, who also has gotten a ride in the team car (and gave Lance his nickname of "The Uniballer"); he was hanging with (and banging) Sheryl Crow for a while; and he got fined the equivalent of $90 or so for checking in late the other day because he was schmoozing with Ben Stiller. Maybe he thinks Jimmy can rally the Parrothead Nation around the fight for cancer...which wouldn't be the worst idea to come along.

I actually knew about Robin Williams-he's a legit TdF fan. I do think it's a great idea surround yourself with big names to get the word out. Maybe Lance will wear a tropical themed jersey next year.
